PLATE HAL EBAY foe AL PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, June 27, 1979 -- 35 Scugog Island and area news by Mrs. Earl Reader Angus Wilkinson is slowly recovering in hospital from a very bad case of shingles. Last Thursday, Cliff Love went into hospital with a heart problem, for which he is having various tests and medication. On Wednesday evening the Women's Institute made final plans for their annual auction sale set for July 14. Members responded to the presenting many interesting family pictures. Helen Hortop had a. particularly interesting well bound book illustrating a family tree in pictures and information. Helen Redman had a volume of the Tweedsmuir history which represented many hours of work by herself and her mother, Mrs. Eastwood. As we scanned the pages, we were surprised to find many family and community tor posterity. ~ On Tuesday evening Mrs. Helen Fedyk was hostess to approximately 50 guests from the "Head" U.C.W., the Institute and personal friends who gathered to present a kitchen shower to Marci Doupe who will short- ly become the bride of John Redman in July. She received many beautiful and useful gifts with few dupli- by Mrs. Fedyk in arranging invitations and the beautiful buffet lunch. Finally, the rains came to give a well deserved rest to the haymakers and we managed to shiver through the weekend. But this fit in well for the various travel- lers who wished to enjoy distant weddings or celebra- tions. Members of the Redman a cates. Midtown Mall 200 John Street West, Oshawa, Ontario 576-2431 1150 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa, Ontario 576-997 Wedding Anniversary for cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Redman. Last week Mrs. Doug Baird of Aldred's Beach and who is employed with the Medical Associates was ecstatic with joy as a result of a few days visit from friends from a 1700 ac. dairy farm in South Africa near Durban. This revived a very exciting three years of Susan's earlier travelling experiences through South Africa. She and a friend 11 years ago pulled up their roots in Toronto and decided to see some other parts of the world through work and various modes of travel. This took them to Canada's west coast, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, the continent of Europe, and finally South Africa where they met their life long friend Janet. Janet married on this extensive farm where 8 native families are employed. - At this time she and her husband decided to spend five weeks touring Canada and studying dairy- ing procedures here. Of course it is now winter in S.A. Though they love their homefarm in spite of the stories we hear, they were much impressed with Canada and especially the stores of Port Perry. Susan herself is very happy with Scugog life now and praises her helpful and thoughtful neighbours. Sunday was another satis- fying day at the Island Church. In the lobby we were first cheered by the sight of a beautiful bouquet of unusual Chineso Peonies. Doreen Adam had completed the task of beautiful script printing and returned the Remembrance Book up to date. Next we were given great pleasure by the Scugog Orchestra as final Service Plans were made in the basement and regular adherents and visitors arrived in the Church. Of course many children have already begun holidays and many parents share it with them. We certainly owe much appreciation to the Prince Albert people and other visitors who can always be depended upon to assist us for special occasions. The result was that the choir had swelled to 18 participants to sing 2 fine anthems "Reach Out for Jesus" and "If My People". The Bulletins gave detailed explanations of the proceedings and a list of gifts to be dedicated along with the donors (Rather a nice momento). The Dedication ceremony by Rev. Clarke was one to be remembered. Barbara Brown was received into membership and welcomed by Elders Alan Carter and Clifford Redman. The Elders assisting in the Rite of Communion were Eliza Fralick, Pat Adderley, Clifford Redman, and Alan Carter. The Stewards who assisted with the offering were Don Gerrow, Glen Wilson, Alan Carter, and Dr. Jim Gerrow. Unfortunately, many had duties after the Service and could not share the social hour and lunch with special cakes decorated with musical notes. The "Head" U.C.W. meets tonight at the "Head"' Museum Church. Tickets are being pur- chased for the Salad, meat, and Strawberry Supper, at the Island Hall next Wednes- day night. Don't leave yours too late. Call your corres- pondent. Strawberries have been ordered and so far the prospects look good for fulfil- ment. Recently, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Love attended an interesting wedding in Dunnville. The groom was the Chinese boy who had been with the group of students attending the bus trip to the United Nations a few years ago and was among the group attending our special International Youth Church Service last August when so many of them visited with the Loves. At present, the C.J. Loves have their daughter Barbara and grandsons visiting from New Brunswick.
