el RR by M. Beacock Happy holidays kids! Hope each one of you has a safe and fun-filled two- month vacation. We also extend our best wishes to all the teachers and we hope you too will have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. You cert- ainly deserve it. This past week has found the Greenbank School in a bee-hive of activity. On Tuesday the annual Sports Day was held with 'lots of interesting activities planned for the kids. Wed- nesday the parents and teachers joined forces and played a game of baseball with the students during the afternoon and on Friday the closing exercises for the year were held in the morn- ing. Two of the most prestig- ious awards were presented to Scott Branton and Chris Saulnier for Top Student of the year and Most Improved Student of the Year respect- FAP ZEN 78 eM. RAIN TAAL p : RAS 2 adasisd ively. Various other awards were also 'presented includ- ing ones for Canada Fitness ete. Congratulations to all of the prize winners! Nice to see our good friend Fred Cookson back home again after a visit to the hospital recently. Several area residents at- tended the Pine Grove Ceme- tery decoration service on Sunday in Prince Albert. Congratulations to a very lucky man in Mariposa Estates who was a happy recipient in the last Wintario draw. Mr. and Mrs. Don Beacock and sons attended the 52nd annual Beacock Reunion in Blackstock on Saturday. Sunday visitors at their home were Mr. Grant Bea- cock of Toronto and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Beacock of Elmvale. We're both glad and sad to see a "Sold" sign on Mrs. Rita Boe's house this past letters More puzzled?? (From page 6) businesses have already been promised to start us on the last $100,000. If we all contribute 'in the raising of that amount, I am sure, that like the Town Hall, we would be even more proud of the results of our efforts. As for the parking spaces that are required for library use, that problem will soon be out of our hands. The price of gas will curtail the use of cars. Luckily most of us need the extra exercise and probably will be rewarded by loss of weight. Most of us need that, too!! Mr. Rose reiterated three times at the meeting, that the newly purchased proper- ty was not zoned for park- land. Surely it could very quickly and easily be rezoned. ' Mr. Rose also explained where our tax money went. Said the portion that our Council administerd was used for services, etc. requested by the local taxpayers. I - wonder if Mr. Rose would give us the number of tax- payers who requested a new municipal building be built. Council would be well served if they would send letters of information to the press rather than let rumours get started. When: they finally sent a letter of explanation to the Star on June 20th, it really did not do anything but cloud the issue. I'felt on reading it (also later at the meeting) that they were using the library board as a scapegoat for the- controversial use of the newly acquired lakefront land. It seems to me they offered the land to the board, only after they had refused the board the by-law changes. ' Further clarifications are required re- the land rights of the Lawn Bowling Club. Is the land rented, owned, or under option? Council never made this clear and seemed to be trying to make the Club the "villans of the piece".
