RAI LEA BAS TY La Aiaivd, TRS AAAS) 4d ed ind Township to conduct recreation survey Over the next several weeks, about ten per cent of all households in Scugog Township will be asked to respond to questions con- cerning recreation in this" municipality. The survey is being carried out by the Scugog Recreation Committee, and once the data have been compiled, the Committee will start preparing a long- range strategy and plan for recreation in the Township. . Bev Driscoll has been hired to actually conduct the survey, and she says that starting next week, she will be knocking on doors in every part of the Township, including the rural areas. Ms. Driscoll says she will eventually cover 400 house- holds, which represents about ten per cent of those in Scugog. The householder contacted will be asked to answer a series of ten short questions such as what recreation facilities the family uses and where; and what kind of recreation activity the family enjoys during leisure time. Although the idea for the survey came from the local recreation committee, the long-range strategy for which the survey findings will be used came from the Hospital Report Week Ending July 3rd Admissions provincial government which is encouraging all municipalities to come up with a recreation plan for the future. Ms. Driscoll told the Star that 75 per cent of the cost of carrying out the survey is covered by an Experience "79 grant, while the Township will pay the remainder. She says that she expects to take about eight weeks to survey the 400 households. Method for refund (From Page 1) with some method of re-pay- ing the tax-payers this year. However, the municipal treasury department would appear to prefer that the $97,000 be rolled into the 1980 budget, as treasurer Alex Thomson says in a written report to council that this THE JMBRIEN hale Creativity Saturday Nite At The Town Hall FREE - Family films, animated and live action films for the entire family. With members of the Township staff going on summer holidays, the task of calculating how much refund each of the approximately 6000 ratepayers on the rolls will receive is a time con- suming one. But members of council decided two weeks ago not to go with the roll-over method of re-payment on the grou- nds that changes in the tax structure such as equalized assessment next year and other factors could create inequities. Rather, council wanted some form of direct re-payment this year, des- pite the extra work it may create for the treasury de- partment. However, before any re- fund cheques are issued, the Township auditors will re- riew this method of re- p-yment. As Ward 3 councillor John Williams said at the meeting Monday, "Let's check this method first. We don't want to make another error." DON FREW & SONS LTD.
