22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, July 18, 1979 Wackett strong on the mound ,, MIO DR BEE REECE TAF NERO SR BEES CRE VB HE VALERA ELA PAA L IVICA SIN EHR TRANS FAIRE. --t Senior team hits for a pair of victories by Danny Millar Colin Wackett made a successfuly return to the Port Perry Canadian Tire Mens Softball team as he won two games and drove in five runs as a pitcher. On Wednesday, July 11; he beat Yelverton 8-3 and on Sunday, July 15 Port Perry pounded Pontypool 7-1. In the Yelverton contest, Top drivers at Mosport cycle races When the top motorcycle racers from Europe and America face each other in ia and Canada's Yvon Du- hamel beat world champion Steve Baker on a Yamaha Wackett looked very shaky in the first inning as he allowed a run when Frank Sawyer singled home a run past shortstop Mark Lee. The only other session that Wackett looked bad in was the third when he surren- dered two runs. In that inning Donnie Timms delivered Wayne Timms from third with a single to left field. Another single, this one to the other side of the diamond, counted Ilan Page. But Wackett relaxed and took control of the match. He struck out two and threw one wild pitch. Although he throws reasonably hard, Wackett is not a strikeout coach Doug Scott commen- ted on Wackett's perfor- mance, "He pitched pretty well," he said. Wackett has also played second base and will alter- nate there with Scott. '"He's versatile. He can play all the positions,' commented Scott. "He's going to stay." Wackett limited Pontypool to five hits and one run while his teammates committed three errors. The loser in this matchup was righty Kelly Neals, one of the best hurlers around. Neals allowed 11 hits while striking out eight. Wackett fanned three. An interesting point in this most recent victory for Port Perry is that seven of the eight RBI's came from the Ball Hockey results first three men in the batting order, Rob Evans, Wackett, and Ken Bryant. Usually the big hitters drive in the most runs and are located in the middle of the order. On the Port squad these men include Scott and Owen. Port Perry's next home game is on Wednesday, July 18, at 9:00 p.m. at the diamond on the waterfront. Flames streak to tight upset win the Molson Export Motor- and in 1978 American privat- picther.
