Even- tually, the birds took small feedings of fish cat food and baby food. Mrs. Hamilton gave her complete time and attention to the birds' care and feeding all day Tuesday. Three of them attempted to fly when placed in the warm sunlight on the lawn, but the others barely moved. On Wednes- day morning one of the weak birds was dead. That same day, the strongest flew towards a nearby embank- ment where other King- fishers and Swallows live. It returned to the Hamilton's yard during the afternoon, paused for a moment, then disappeared again. On Thursday morning, the four remaining birds were dead. After spending so much time with them, Mrs. Hamilton felt a personal loss. She questioned her own wisdom in making the decision to remove the birds from their home area. She also expressed the wish that proper assistance had been available. SEALER Protects surface from oil, gas and weather conditions.
