The speedy, severe storm "on Saturday struck a tree at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Beckett causing it to catch on fire. But helpful neighbours soon took care of that. On Sunday Clare and Alva Thompson were surprised by a visit from their son Marshal and his wife on their way back from a vacation to visit relatives in Marathon. It is with great regret that we learned of the decease of Amy Smith from Gerrow's Beach. She was confronted with a terminal illness last February and spent much time in hospital. During better periods at home she thought of friends and neigh- bours and little things she could do for them. As a member of the 'Head' U.C.W. she was always generous in offering her home for Strawberry Suppers, picnics or meet- ings. Through the years, Amy experienced several trage- dies but tried to surmount them. She leaves many love- ly memories with us and we wish to extend our sympathy to her daughter and other members of her family. Her BOB KNAPP burial service is today, Wed- nesday from the Armstrong Funeral Home. We are very happy to have Mrs. Emma Stephen of Estavan, Sask., among us again for part of the summer. She is visiting with her four daughters, includ- ing Bonnie Gerrow, and the various families. Each summer vacation brings a wedding or the acquaintance of new grandchildren. Though she has experienced many years, she is a great little traveller. Friday was a very interes- ting evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clare Thomp- son, Conc. 6 when about 12 ladies took part in a Trea- sure Hunt, namely cultured pearls in oysters from the beds of Japan. Mrs. Thomp- son's daughter conducted the proceedings and she was given the task of opening all the oysters. The guests were thrilled with the results of their choice and were rewarded with one to three pearls of various sizes and hues. Most chose a jewellery setting for their treasures and two of the ladies decided to host a similar evening. Sunday was another satis- fying and stimulating day at the Island Church when Rev. Clarke chose for his sermon, "The Holy Spirit", being a topic which is very impor- tant to us yet hard to explain. The music too was much enjoyed and meaningful ONE OF THE FINEST SELECTIONS OF NEW PONTIAC BUICK GMC TRUCKS when Norm Watson shared his fine talent in two vocal numbers. This extra music means much to the choir too who works so hard all year to stir us in song. We also appreciate the musical leadership by Linda Suther- land who is giving Edna Beckett a break. The beautiful arrange- ment of gladioli reminded us of God's gift of beauty. After the service we were able to view the fine repair work and especially in the back porch, done so well by Allan Martyn. - We are also con- sidering new doors and storage cupboards for music and Church records. Ruth (Wilson) and Wayne Dejong are considering a move to Fergus, where they expect to start a new bake shop. We wish them the best. but we'll certainly miss the beautiful cakes that Wayne has decorated for our special occasions. We are glad to hear that Clara Whitter and Dorothy Jeffrey are both home from hospital and doing well now.
