The series is a best of three with the final slated for Saturday, September 8 in a neutral ball park, possible Napanee or Brockville. The outing must rate as one of the more solid of the season for Port. They played heads up softball and right handed pitcher Kevin Walk- er was as sharp as he has been all season. Walker blanked the visiting Legionn- aires on four hits. Port Perry played near perfect defence, allowing one error. Port Perry broke the ice with a run in their half of the second inning. Mike Healey walked and moved to third on-a Mark Jeffrey single. Healey hustled home on a passed ball. Port Perry put the game on ice in the eighth with three runs. Healey scored again, after singling and arriving at the plate on Jeffrey's triple. Jeffrey finished the loop on an infield hit by Dennis Frannsen. A base hit by Carl Durward drove in Frannsen from sec- ond base to conclude the scoring. After registering an out, Walker, who has had arm problems early in the season seemed to clutch his pitching 20 teams in horseshoe pitching Results of horseshoe pitch- ing at Port Perry fair. Port Perry coach Bob Knapp went to the mound immed- iately and the usual group of infielders gathered around. Jeffrey, the third baseman, left the discussion early and made a gesture with his glove in the direction of the group. As he walked down the left field line he was joined by Port's other coach Ron Redman. The unusual circumstanc- es did not end there, how- ever. At the end of the inning the team held a brief meet- ing at the bench. Walker was the first to leave for the dressing room, Redman close at his heels. After the chat Jeffrey started to warm up on the sidelines. It appeared as though Jeffrey might come in to pitch the next inning as he and his mates headed for the infield, minus Walker. Walk- er finally appeared on the mound to continue to pitch. Walker threw a superb G. He allowed just four hits and struck out ten. His arm problem amounted to nothing. Mike Moran was almost as effective for the Legionn- aires as he also gave up four safeties. He retired seven hitters on strikes. Port Perry was without the services of two key players. Infie George Burnett, who had been claimed by London Knights in the Ontar- io Hockey Association draft earlier in the summer, was at the tryout. Outfielder Greg Fedyk, who adds a spark with his hustling style of play, was also absent.
