The very talented group received two standing ovations for their efforts and promised to return again next year for the ._ opening of the Port Perry Fair. Scugog News by Mrs. Earl Reader We all know this is a week of new beginnings, some being a complete change in our customary mode of liv- ing, others a renewal after a summer of rest and interest- ing experiences. With the return to school, parents also consider the return the Church and Sunday School for their children. Accord- ingly please keep in mind the dates for the activities of the Island Church - choir prac- tice will start this Thursday night. We are hoping the people who have had a year off will return. There are many others too who may enjoy it., Preparations will soon start for the annivers- ary on October 14th. Sunday School starts this Sunday, September 9th. It will go for 2 Sundays, at which time preparations will be made for a special Rally Day Service on September 30. There will be no services on 'the Island on the previous - Sunday as Manchester and Prince Albert have chosen this dater for their annivers- aries. U.C.W.'s will be going again. The "Head" U.C.W. has its annual Turkey Sup- per on Wednesday, Septem- ber 26. Advance tickets will soon .be available from members or your correspon- dent. ' We think there is also a community dance for Sept- ember 15. There will be more details next week. Several Island farms have been sold: lately including that of Gerrows, Chambers, and Jerry Taylor. -The new home of Bill and Marian " Healey on the former Hance farm is nearing completion. The two Gerrow houses on their beach are well on their way. We welcome the new tenants who have moved into the Island Manse. . Murray Clark, of Oshawa, the husband of the late Aleta _ Reader passes away on sun- "day. Murray had spent most of his life in teaching and the field of education tho' he was also interested in farm life. Again wedding s are fainly tolling around the "Head" for October and-. November. Mrs. Beryl Pearce is gain- ing strength.in her arm and shoulder after her successful rib surgery. = For 3 weeks Mrs. Edith Davis and her family will be entertaining relatives from England. ST.
