5, SOR y LY i a LN {AAS Nl SABRE 14 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., September 12, 1979 Five members (From Page 1) be handled by three members rather than five. However, by a vote of four to two (with councillors John Wolters and Don Crosier objecting) council agreed to a resolution that the commis- sion should have five members including the Mayor. Council felt that the membership on the com- Pedi ALLY AP pe ON TRE SE ER fo sit on Hydro Commission mission should be expanded now in light of the fact that there is a possibility in the future that the commission could expand to take in part or all of Scugog Township. The present Port Perry Hydro Commission is made up of four members: chair- man Bill Williams, Bob Kenny, Ted Griffen and Mayor Taylor. The commis- sion membership has not changed since the formation Council starts court action over marina trailers status Scugog Township is going to launch legal action to let the courts decide whether trailers now located at the West Shore Marina on Lake Scugog contravene zoning by-laws. The move to proceed with legal action was made at the regular meeting of council Monday evening after attempts to reach some kind of compromise agree- ment between the marina owners and the Honey's Beach cottagers assoication failed. Councillor Jerry Jackman said Monday night that he and Ward 1 councillor Don Crosier met with about 25 of the property owners last Friday night, and were almost unanimous in asking that the trailers now on the marina property be removed The issue between the marina and property owners has been simmering for several months with the marina owners claiming that the trailers are a legal non- conforming use. At a council meeting two weeks ago, conflicting affidavits were presented by the marina owners and the cottagers association as to how long trailers have been on the property. 4 T.auras When the conflicting affidavits were submitted to \ boutique FASHION SHOW Wednesday, September 12th from 7 to 9 P.M. LOB 1NO (416) 985-7419 council, Scugog Mayor Jerry Taylor said there was no way the council should decide on the legal implications. However, at that meeting two weeks ago, council did ask that the marina owners and cottagers try to work out a compromise among them- selves to avoid having the matter go before the courts for a ruling. Public meeting A public information meet- ing will be held September 18 on the subject of the recon- struction of Queen Street in Port Perry planned for next summer. The meeting will be held at the Township Municipal off- ices in Port Perry during the afternoon and evening. For more information call 985-7346. .of Regional government because of an order from the provincial government. However, next November, the members of the commission will be elected by the people at the time of municipal elections. Of the present commission members, Mr. Williams apparently is going to step down at the end of the year, and Mr. Kenny cannot qualify to sit on the new commission because he is an employee of the Township. During discussion on the size of the new commission, Port 'Perry Hydro manager ) Larry Mabley stated that the present workload could be handled by a three-member commission. '"'About 80 per cent of the gross revenue each year goes automatical- ly to Ontario Hydro" for purchase of power, A rep from Ontario Hydro at the meeting Monday after- noon said that the workload "could probably be handled by a three-member commis- sion until the boundaries of the commission are expand- ed." Expansion is now under study by Ontario Hydro, but Glenn Broomhead, a super- visor with Ontario Hydro told council Monday there are presently several other expansion studies ahead of Scugog, and it likely would be a few years before any expansion could be carried out here. Hydro commissioners for Port Perry are paid $30 per meeting and meet once a month.
