The winner will become the York-Durham Bantam League champion. A key player in the 6-3 victory was righthanded pitcher Phil Robinson. Rob- inson tossed a fine game, throwing as hard as he had all season. He struck out six batters. Port Perry threatened early in the game, on the first pitch from Bob Carpen- ter, as Peter Oosterholt tried to stretch a long triple into a home run. He was thrown out at the plate but catcher Mike Brown dropped the ball. The umpire refused to change his call, which was one of several poor decisions that was made in the match. Later Scott Patton was called out at third when FENCE & PATIO CENTRE * Farm Gates & Fence * T-Bar * Barb Wire 125-1 121 Ld Installations & Repalrs "raunton E. W Mile E. of Ritson Rd. Quinn Moyer dropped the Where and again the ruling id not change. At one point in the game, the man in the black mask calling the balls and strikes made one bats- man remain at the plate after four balls had been registered. On another occa- sion Port Perry took to the defence after only two outs had been recorded, and after a slight confusion, returned to the bench. The Lions got their first official run in the fifth inn- ing. Keith Tremblay singled on the first pitch and Patton walked. Robinson doubled down the left field line to score Tremblay and Patton was retired on the controver- sial play. This was also the round in which the number of outs were confused. Unionville matched that tally with a run in their half of the same frame. Gord Carpenter homered with two out. The ball fell between centerfielder Todd Blayone and Tremblay in right. That blow was the first of two round trippers for the hosts. Grant Marley pound- ed Robinson's first offering of the sixth to left center. Clay Lovering opened the Lion's sixth when he reached base on third baseman Moyer's error. He was delivered on a long, clean triple to straight away center by Sean Fewer. Fewer scored the second run of the inning on shortstop Gord Carpenter's miscue. Previously, Carpenter made a couple of fine plays defens- ively, besides contributing the homer. Port Perry put the contest out of reach with three runs in the seventh. Donnie Young and Pete Christie led off with back to back base hit bunts. Manager Bill Fewer later credited these plays with a key part in the victory. Young was forced out at third but Christie scored on a Fewer double. Originally, Christie was signalled out at home but when the new backstop couldn't hang on he was called safe. Lovering and Fewer con- cluded the scoring on a base hit by Blayone, who made a superb "catch to end the game, and a sacrifice fly by Tremblay. "They played the way they've been playing for the last three weeks," enthused Fewer. He termed those efforts as "excellent."
