One evening recently Mrs. Jack "Elva' Brain shared her home when her close friends Mesdames R. Sweet- man, M. Jeffrey, C. Luke, H. Goulding arranged a sur- prise miscellaneous shower for Miss Margot Van Schag- en whose approaching marr- iage is to take place shortly to Mr. Brian Brain. The Bride-to-be voiced a thank- you for the wide variety of useful gifts. At this time the entire party of thirty ladies enjoyed snackin and wished Margot much happiness. Now at this date congratulat- ory remarks are due to the newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. B. Brain. The Royal Canadian Leg- fon chose the site of Poplar Park for their annual picnic. The afternoon's program consisted of well organized sports, swimming, awarding prizes and the appetizing smorgasborg. The annual Policeman's Picnic was held at Knights of Columbus Hall at which Mr. and Mrs. R. Olaisen and family joined the large gath- ering of entertainment. Saturday evening Septem- ber 8 a group of friends were on deck again on the grounds of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Feasby and family. Dancing, pork- roast, steaming corn and coffee made possible through the Feasby's gener- osity and so thank-you. Mrs Marjorie McCombe, Port Perry in company with Mrs. Gail Glass have return- ed from being four day dele- gated to The Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star Conven- tion held in the Royal York Hotel,; Toronto. Recent company with Mr. and Mrs. Les Beacock in- cluded Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Edye (nee Hooey) of Winni- peg, Manitoba, Mr. and Mrs. N. Boynton and Shirley, Mr. and Mrs. D. Dawson of Pet- erborough, Mrs. M. Tarves, Miss O. Beacock, both of Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Stiller were guests at the vows of her yniversity friend the Ptasinskas-Stankevicius wedding in Welland. Their 4 month old son Aaron stayed the weekend with his mater- nal grandparents at Oak- ville. Mr. and Mrs. R. Sweetman daughter Mr. and Mrs. B. Wanamaker, and her broth- er Mr. and Mrs. G. Sweet- man of Barrie all attended the silver wedding annivers- ary of Mr. and Mrs. R. Leroux actually of Oshawa but the special occasion took place in Bethany. Mr. and Mrs. Stan Feasby were guests at the marriage of her nephew the Wright- Martin church wedding in Stouffville on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. John Brough and family spent much of their holidays at Marmora. Mr. D. Robinson and friend and Mr. and Mrs. Les Beacock were guests at the Will-Sander wedding in Trin- ity United Church, Bowman- ville, with the reception at the Holiday Inn, Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Love were guests attending the Funston-Yanchuk wedding of a relative in Cambridge United Church, Lindsay. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Moore and family and mother-in-law Mrs. Reid spent a portion of the holi- days in Parry Sound area. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Arm- strong and Brenda visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. Stan Kerr of Campbellford, and his parents Mr. and Mrs. B. Armstrong at Warkworth.
