Yelvertonarea news By Harvey Malcolm We lcome is extended to our new minister for Janet- ville Charge, Mr. Art Rogers, his wife and family. Mr. Rogers has conducted his second service in the local churches and the congregations are no doubt duly impressed with his ability to express himself with an extensive vocabulary and poetic ap- preciation. As to be expec- ted, each minister is an in- dividual and contributes to the cause in a variety of ways. At Sunday's service, Doug Eggins from the Springwater Trailer Park contributed a fine solo and Mrs. Clare Robinson read the scripture with Mrs. Ray Robinson presiding on the organ. College and university stu- dents are currently winding their way back to higher edu- cation. Miss Valerie Mal- colm has returned to Sheri- dan College, Oakville; Mr. Darryl Robinson back to Guelph University; and Mr. Quenton Robinson entering Kemptville University. Miss Lana Malcolm is to be congratulated on winning first prize in the Amateur Contest for 12 years and over with ten participants in her class, receiving a welcome cash award. Lana is earning herself an enviable reputation as Western style vocalist with her own guitar accompaniment. Recent visitors with the Murray Malcolm's included Joyce's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Carl McMullen of Trenton, Michigan, U.S.A. and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mc- Mullen, Dr. Max Longfield of Brampton and Mr. Harold Fife of Norwood. Of the busload, ten were wives of the men involved, one of which could converse a little in English. While the men toured the Hog operation, the ladies viewed Howard and Eileen's domicile and later together enjoyed a lun- ch provided by Eileen and Brenda. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bowen, Lynne and Pat Mothersill and the three little "Jays" were Sunday visitors with their grandparents to wish Grandma Elva a Happy Bir- thday. The Murray Malcolms were Monday din- ner guests. Congratulations are ex- tended to the Yelverton Men's Softball team who cam ahead after a two game deficit (not defeat), vs. Port Perry Canadian Tire team, to take the last three games in a row to win the Lake Scugog Softball Association Championship and the coveted Charlie McCullough Memorial Trophy. This trophy is especially prized at Yelverton for it was donated by the Ray McCullough family here, in memory of their son and brother, Charlie who met an untimely death in a car accident following the last playoff game of the season vs. this same team three years ago - October 5 -6 , 1976. Meanwhile the Yelverton girls are also entering the finals vs. Janetville girls, following a convincing defeat of the Millbrook Jr. Girls team this past week in a 3 out of five series. Good Luck, gals! . Mrs. Carl Kyrytow, Erinlea Ave., Oshawa, en- tertained a number of loclal relatives to a miscellaneous shower for her cousin, bride elect, Miss Marie Van Camp of Blackstock, who is scheduled to enter the state of matrimony on September 22 with Mr. Bob Atfield. Marie received a number of useful kitchen gifts for which she expressed her thanks and to the hostess Nola and hubby Carl for their Hospitality on the occasion. Those present included of course the bride elect, Marie; sister Valerie, who assisted in opening the gifts; her mother, Mrs. Merrill Van Camp; Mrs. Daisy Malcolm; Miss Christie Currie; Mrs. Lloyd Hunter; Mrs. Ruth Proutt and Mrs. Corrie Malcolm, as well as a few extraneous males who appeared in time for the delicious lunch served by Nola and Carl. - Long lost cousins Port Perry was the setting last week for a happy reunion between two first cousins who had not seen each other for more than 50 years. James Bremner is from near Barrie and Sheila Dunnett comes from Wellington, New Zealand, and they were at the Port Perry home of Mr. Bremner's daughter Lynda Chatten. Although the cousins kept up regular correspondence over the years, they last saw each other as children in Scotland. Mrs. Dunnett says she planned the Canada trip for the past couple of years.
