2 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., September 19, 1979 Scugog Jaycees form new unit The Railroadhouse Inn, Port Perry, was the scene of an event which promises to do a great deal for the Scugog area. A meeting was held between several Jaycee Units from the surrounding area and interested local people. After an orientation sess- ion on the aims of the Jaycee movement, Canada Jaycee President, David Robart- Morgan, and National Vice President, Roy Klementi officially inducted the first six members of the newly formed Scugog Jaycees. Al- though the club requires 15 members to receive its char- ter, hopes are very high that many more prospective members will have joined at the second meeting held last night. The Scugog Jaycees will - be guided in their first year of operation by the Whitby Jaycees, one of the outstand- ing Jaycee Units in Canada. Any young man between Ontario. In the last six years, repairs totalling $37,000 have been made to the arena for such things as replacement of footings and bracing trusses. If it is found that repairs and maintenance to the building become too costly, forcing a permanent shut- down, this is expected to re-kindle the idea of building a second ice surface at the New Arena on Regional Road 8, just west of Port Perry. In the past year, there were 145 volunteers involved with Community Care and they put in more than 2,000 hours of work.
