P Bb 2 FR Kelly Silverman and Donny Young were judged to have the best initiation day Rev. Victor Parsons of- costumes at Port Perry High School last Friday in the "animal" and "Miss Piggy' categories respectively. P.P.H.S. news by Ellen Buller This week at Port Perry High School was one of apprehension and excitement. The three days of initiation were a lot of fun for those who participated especially for the grade niners. This is the first time I have ever seen a grade nine student rush to his next class in order to avoid the shenanigans of the other students. On Wednesday (courtesy day) promoting school spirit, the grade 10, 11, 12, 13 had to wear neckties in order to ask any of the grade nines to open doors for them. On Thursday, a pre-arranged stunt was played on the grade nines. A cafeteria meeting with Mr. Williams was the excuse for congregating all the grade nines for cafeteria duty which entailed the collection of garbage and trays and carrying out their disposal. But Friday was the big day. The boys were to dress up like "Miss Piggy" in a dress, wig, 'pig nose and ears, and the girls as "Animal" with rolled up jeans, a ratty t-shirt, dog chains and drumsticks. Later in the day the best dressed boy and girl were chosen. The winners of this contest and a pair of free passes each to the dance were Kelly Silverman and Donny Young. The fun filled day culminated in a dance with a D.J. from Sweet Sounds in Whitby that started at 8:30 and ended shortly after 11:30. Those who had an activity card were eligible to win 2 free passes to the dance. Five names were drawn and Todd Steele, Tracey Denby, Rob Fellows, Mark Swain, and Eric Dixson won. The dance went smoothly and everyone had a good time. Congratulations to the dance committee and all involved. Congratulations should also be extended to all the senior students who conducted themselves in a very mature fashion during initiation. There were no major incidents and the three days went well. Well the activity card sales are over and our sales were just 70 short of our set goal of 800. On Friday our boys' senior football team came up against a hard team to beat. Unfortunately, Port Perry lost to Henry Street High School from Whitby. Numerous minor injuries were sustained by several players on the Port Perry team. Hopefully, the team members hurt will be back playing soon. Earlier in the week, on Wednesday the Port Perry High School soccer team, even with one heck of a shot, came up on the losing end against Dunbarton. Better luck next time guys. Oh yes, don't forget picture day is on Thursday, so wear your best smile and garb. oem a a "SN ay ea, IN PE Se ee ----- ar, = -- RIN ~~ (AC Ty SER A NA de? ---- TSN ey SCAN Wo, <¥ "he (OS , Ta een S2 z 7
