£0 » Cartwright H.S. starts new year by Caroline Carnaghan On September 4, Cart- wright High School opened its newly painted doors and welcomed 107 "eager" students. The scent of new paint roamed through the basement as that 'beauti- ful turquoise green paint was put on the lockers once again. There were 6.7 teachers at the High School this year - Mr. Gordon Pais- ley, Mr. Randy Scott, Mr. Ray Ashton, Mr. David Payne, Mr. Eric Fletcher, Miss Susan Sheen and our .7 Mrs. Joyce Taylor. Along with this staff is our part time secretary Mrs. Mason. On September 14 Cart- wtight High officially welcomed its grade 9's with the official initiation cere- monies. A parade of well dressed students tramped through the halls Friday morning, clad in curlers, garbage bags, and of course the boys with their sexy legs. The morning events began with an auction starting at 11:15. Ralph DeJong and Jeanette vanGestel were named best dressed boy and girl and received a chocolate bar each for their trouble, then the auction was on. Craig Larmer, student council president sold the slaves and the bills were flying $5's, $10's, and even $20's! The Student Council made $168.75. Thanks to everyone who bought a = ELE TT TT = off with a bang slave. And a big thanks to the slaves by the way - Welcome to Cartwright High School. Various races were held after the auction and at 8:30 p.m. an Initiation was held at the Rec. Centre. A good crowd was out and we were glad to see a lot of Grade 9's - they all showed great school spirit - keep it up. Friday, September 21, proved to be a busy day for the school also. 85 students showed up by 7:30 at the school for their annual school pictures. Everyone looked their best, guys in their 3 piece suits and girls in curls and dresses - not just for pictures but for a trip to Stratford. Two buses left the school Friday morning arriving in Stratford around noon. Lunch was eaten and we continued to the theatre. The production was "'Othel- lo". It was of course, an excellent play - performed superbly. Dinner was eaten in Cambridge and we were home by 11 p.m. All in all it was a very good day and a big thanks to all who went, attendance was terrific. Well, the Cartwright High's calendar for 1979 - '80 has gotten off to a great start. There are many more events planned for this year and to make these events work we need school spirit. If everyone gives a little we'll all get a lot. ONE WEEK ONLY! 20% OFF ALL WALLPAPER (Effective Until Wednesday, October 3rd, 1979) PORT PERRY PAINT & WALLPAPER (Owned & Operated by R.B.
