26 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., September 26, 1979 Disappointing turnout! Club calls second meeting due to poor attendance by Danny Millar A poor turnout at one meeting has forced the Scugog Soccer Club to schedule a second General Meeting for Thursday, October 4 at Port Perry High School. The first attempt held on Wednesday, Septem- ber 19 dréw less than 20 concerned parents. Club President Brian Yeo stated he was 'very disap- pointed" with the atten- dance. A segment of the initial gathering was spent on discussing what Mr. Yeo referred to as the "apathy" of the parents. Apparently nothing concrete developed. Numerous nominations were made under acclama- tion, that is, the positions are tentatively set until someone can be found to oppose them. These posts, if they remain unchallenged, will become definite at the next meeting. One parent who is definite ly concerned is Bill McCul- lough. Mr. McCullough is a father of a soccer player and his interest spread until he was nominated as Vice President. Former Treasurer Jim Callan was asked to run for the club President, succeed- ing Mr. Yeo. He has accep- ted. Mr. Callan has been associa- ted with the club for three years and he was a key' mover in its birth along with Mr. Yeo. Mr. Yeo will remain on the Executive as a past Presi- dent under a new constitu- Ringettes need girls The Port Perry Ringette Association is appealing to girls between the ages of seven and 18 to come out for registration this Sunday at the New Scugog Arena. Registration last week at- tracted just 23 girls, a disap- pointing number considering that last year more than 50 girls played the sport in this area. A second round of regis- tration will be held this Sunday at the arena from 10 to 11 am. and from 2 to 3 p.m. tional amendment. Several directors were appointed. Maureen Yeo, Alf Huggins, Mrs. Collins, John Rodway, and Brian Mark will almost certainly sit on the board. Mr. Yeo analyzed the club's financial position as "excel- lent."" We don't owe anybody any money and we've got money in the bank." Registration for the season past checked in at 240 and is expected to reach 300 next year. The drastic rise has given Mr. Yeo cause to ask for a '"'pow-wow" with the directors of the softball and hockey programs next spring in order to iron out any conflicts with dates. Mr. Yeo also recounted a. very interesting tribute to the Scugog Soccer system. Apparently the Beatrice Food people, who are into the soccer program very heavily financially, made a film of the game played between them and the Scugog coaches at the new park's inauguration ceremony. The clip won an award at a recent conference in Florida. "I was quite complimen- ted by that," exclaimed Mr. Yeo, adding that, "Scugog Lightning strikes twice, sort of. Mary Thomson, of Port Perry recorded a hole in one September 16, her first ever, on the 155 yard éth hole at the Sunnybrae course. The feat was witnessed by Ginny Clifford, and Mrs. Thomson's husband Alex. Just two summers ago, Mr. Thomson had the good fortune to sink his tee shot on the same 6th hole on Sunnybrae. should be complimented" as well. The second meeting will be held at Port Perry High School, October 4. Blues defeat Bradford The Port Perry Blues ladies softball team opened their best of five final series Monday night with a solid 5-3 win over Bradford. Pitcher Karen Young had a strong game for Port Perry going the full seven innings, and helping her own cause at the plate with two hits and two RBI's. The Blues played steady softball throughout the game backed by solid defensive work in the infield. The team picked up two runs in the first, and then put the game away with a final run in the last inning. This first game of the South Lake Simcoe Ladies Softball finals was played in Bradford and the second was played Tuesday night in Port Perry. The third game of this series is set for next Monday night in Bradford, with a fourth game, if necessary, back in Port Perry. Ashburn news by Mrs. E.
