36 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., September 26, 1979 Blue Ray elects 1979-80 officers by Mabel Cawker Blue Ray Chapter number 238, Order of the Eastern Star met in the Masonic Hall, Sept. 13th, for the election of Officers for the ensuing year. The meeting opened in regular form by Worthy Matron Frances Gibson as- sisted by Worthy Patron Sam Cawker. Visitors from Sunbeam and Whitby Chap- ters were given a cordial welcome. Splendid Annual Reports were presented by the var- ious officers and convenors. The Worthy Matron elect Marjorie McCombe, just back from Grand Chapter, which was held at the Royal TRNAS > York Hotel, Toronto, Sept. 4th-7th presented an excell ent report of proceedings. A cheque was given to the Heart fund at Grand Chapter for approximately $48,000.00 from the 262 Chapters across the province. The Worthy Grand Matron of Ontario chooses a project to which money is raised by members at many functions. This year Worthy Grand Matron Olive Avery of Toronto chose the Heart fund. A benevolent Order the Eastern Star also raised money to fight cancer, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, mentally re- tarded, and assists its own members in time of need. Mr. and Mrs. Kent are teachers, hav- ing taught in Thailand for 9 years, returning to Canada in April, but intend to go back to Thailand again. Mark does mechanical and service work. We do wish him well in this new venture. The residents of this area are deeply shocked and sad- dened to learn of the sudden death of Dr. Russell S. Mar- tin early Sunday morning. Sympathy is extended to his wife Susan and other mem- bers of his family. We understand Susan is recover- ing and is in Oshawa Hospi- tal.
