News as provided to your scribe by Mrs. Thora Gray, Sec. The first meeting of Yelverton U.C.W. following the summer holiday was held in the Church basement on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 6 with 10 members present. Mrs. Ralph Pfoh presided in the absence of President, Mrs. Allan Howe. Linda provided the Devotional reading Luke 4: 18 and 19. Following a revised version sung in Unison of "Amazing Grace", she spoke on "Human Rights are not op- tional." The various reports were presented and bills paid. On motion, donations were made as follows - $100. to the Fruit and Flower Commit- tee; $50.00 to the Sunday School; $125. to the M&S Fund; and $50.00 towards the sponsorship of the 'Boat People' refugees. A very encouraging report was given on the Pork Bar- beque last June. A thank you note was read with a generous donation for providing lunch following the funeral service of the late Mrs. Edna Jarvie. The Church organ is to be repaired. (No more singing offkey)! A motion was ap- proved to hold our Annual Roast Beef Dinner on Thanksgiving Monday, October 8, 1979 and a plan- ning committee was named. Ralph and Linda Pfoh showed some very in- teresting slides and provided a life story of the founder of Madonna House at Com- bermere (north of Ban- croft). A delicious lunch was served by the hostess, Mrs. Floyd Stinson and Mrs. Joe Hurtig. Amen. Life at Malconia settles back to normal once more as sister-in-law Tieny finishes her three week vacation and flies back home to Bever- wijk, Holland. Also guests this week at our humble domicile was our nephew, Louis Nasato of Port Credit who had just returned from two weeks in New Brunswick and is returning for his 3rd and final year in an Electronic course at Sheridan College, Brampton. Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Allan Howe and family in the passing of Allan's mother this week. Mrs. Howe had been hospitalized for some time and was granted surcease from pain on Wednesday. The funeral was conducted in Toronto on Saturday mor- ning. Sympathy is also extended to all the Clarke family in the, sudden passing of Murray Clarke, formerly _of Balyduff.
