The week- end was a celebration of Mr. John Carre's birthday and on Saturday evening everyone went to The Deer Park Inn for dinner. Happy Birthday to Master Kevin Carre who is 4 years old on Wednesday. There were only 12 tables of euchre at the hall on Friday evening and all the winners were ladies. Does that prove that women are smarter or just that the men had something else to do that night and didn't show up. Winners were : Mildred Thompson, Iva Yake % Roberta Thomas. Freeze out winners were Roberta Thomas & Doris Devlin with Phyllis Clark & Bea Harri- son coming in second. There will be another euchre in two weeks. Miss Leigh Monk of Port Perry was an overnight guest of Miss Kathy Sutcliffe on Friday. Mrs. Helen Crawford of Peterborough visited with the Sutcliffes on Saturday. Sunday guests were Mr, & Mrs. Jack Miller of Mississauga. Mrs. Peter Sutcliffe accompanied Mr. & Mrs. Bill Goslin and Mr. & Mrs. Terry Crawford to a MTC dance in Pontypool on Saturday evening. M- & Mrs. Allan Ashton and family of Oakwood visited with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Geer and boys on Friday evening. Has anyone noticed the new street light at the corner? It will sure be appreciated hy those using the Community Halli. Now it would be real nice to get one at the top of the hill so we don't have to walk around in the dark. Mr. and Mrs. Dusty and family will be moving to their other farm - next door east. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Luke of Port Perry were playing bridge at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Svmes, R.R.4, Port Perry, over the week-end and Mr. Luke had the opportunity of holding a perfect bridge hand. 10 YEARS AGO Thursday, October 13, 1969 The breeder house of Peel's Poultry Farm was totally destroyed by fire on Friday morning. The building, about 15,000 sq.ft., and housing as many as 5,500 birds at times, was empty. The nearby buildings were saved by the efficient work of the firemen. Mr. A.G. Pacey, bank manager for the last five years in the Royal Bank of Canada Branch in Port Perry, has been transferred to the Royal Bank, Harriston Branch. Succeeding Mr. Pacey is Mr. G.H. Porter from the Cookstown Branch. The family of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Aslhiton gave them a surprise 35th Wedding Anniversary party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Xeith Ashton on Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Taylor of New York City accom- panied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paddy Eagon of Dublin, Ireland, are visifing with Mr. and Mrs. Leo Taylor and family. The Irish couple celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary while in the U.S. Mr. Ted Jackson, auctioneer for 50 years, estimated the total attendance at the Frank MacGregor sale at Utica was close to 1,500 - the largest crowd he had ever seen at an auction. Numerous items were sold during the course of the sale which began at 10:30 a.m. and continued until 7:00 p.m. Mr. Frank MacGregor established his general store in 1922. At one time the building used to be one of the many hotels in the area.
