by Harvey Malcolm Miss Lana Malcolm parti- cipated in a National Talent Contest this week at the Skyline Hotel in Toronto rep- resenting C.K.L.Y. Lindsay. This was held in conjunction with the Academy of Music Entertainment Convention. Lana was in a rather select group of 6 contestants from Winnipeg, North Bay, St. Catherines, Ottawa and Kit- chener. Back up music for the contest was provided by the Johnny Burke Band. Lana also took part on Fri- day evening in a benefit dance at Douro Ontario. Yelvertons Maltheb Girls Softball team after being trounced 13-3 last week by the Janetville Girls, pulled up their elastic socks and bounced right back to return the compliment 14-3. This game was played on Monday evening on the neutral park at Nestleton. Likewise in the third game on Thursday night at Nestle- ton Community Park, Yel- verton girls forged ahead to win the game 12-1. On Saturday, the Ray Rob- inson hosted a family gather- ing in recognition of their youngest son Darryl's 21st birthday. In attendance were Darryl's grandmothers - Mr§ Etnestine Henderson and Mrs. Etta Robinson. Mrs. Murray Henderson and girls, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Henderson and several members of their family including Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wright of Pefferlaw. Also present for this occasion as well as overnight guests foll- owing the Attfield-VanCamp wedding in Blackstock. Yelverton United Church observed its 117th annivers- ary on Sunday with a capac- ity crowd in attendance to hear guest minister Rev. Stanley Haines. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Robert Armstrong, Mrs. Frank Fry, Mr. Jack Gordon, and Mr. Ray Robin- son accompanied by Mrs. Ruth Skuce on the electric organ contributed several musical numbers to the serv- ice which were much enjoy- ed. A flower table with accom- panying pot of mums was contributed to the church and the table dedicated cour- tesy of Miss Lillian Lawson in memory of her parents the late Mr. and Mrs. James Lawson. The ushers on the occasions were Messrs. Darryl and Quinton Robin- son. A couple of weddings of interest to local residents took place on Saturday. The youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright of Blackstock - Elaine was married in Toronto - niece of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Stinson of this community. It was our pleasure to attend the Attfield-VanCamp wedding in Blackstock when Miss Marie VanCamp, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Van Camp was unit- ed in marriage to Mr. Bob Attfield of Toronto third son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Attfield. A few points of particular interest to us at least, was the candle lighting ceremony that was incorporated into DID YOU KNOW.... Call: 985-8461 the wedding, the cute antics of the little five year old ringbearer Master Stefan Kyrytow, all decked out in his miniature tuxedo. Anoth- er innovation was having a lady toastmaster the bride's aunt Miss Aileen Van Camp who handled the chore with experience and wit. All in all it was a darn good wedding with all the princi- pals looking their best on this auspicious occasion. Man remains in serious condition after accident Durham Region Police have released the name of the driver of a car involved in an accident September 23 which took the life of Dr. Russell Martin of Port Perry. John G. Glenn, 29, of Don Mills was alone in his west- bound car when the accident occurred near Utica on Re- gional Road 21. He is listed in very serious condition in a Toronto hospital, and police initially with-held the name while they located his next of kin.
