BUY ONE GET ONE FREE -- High School wrap up -- by Danny Millar The Port Perry Varsity ~ Redmen lost a close 2-1 soccer match to the Tigers of Uxbridge Secondary School on Tuesday, October 9 at the High School field. The set- back marked the fourth in as many starts in league play for the Redmen, but they have two pre-season games. Mike Barton put the Red- men on top in the first half when he scored on a corner kick that an Uxbridge player deflected into his own net. Barton played a strong game for Port Perry as he was a constant threat offensively. . Play in the first half was very even, and Port's man in the nets, Alf Huggins, was counted on to come up with some big stops. Jon Howell performed well on the Port defensive. The Redmen missed an opportunity to lengthen their lead to 2-0 late in the first half when Keith Mackinnon missed a penalty kick. Early in the second half Port Perry coach Mr. D. McClure was ejected for arguing the referee's call. The official may have had a rough day as many players and coaches were upset with his work. Later in the second half Troy Jaegur of Ux- bridge was ejected after injuring Port Perry's Keith Mackinnon. Jaegur was summoned by the referee, turned away from him, and after returning got into a debate with the man in black. They were attempting to defend the title but were eliminated 16-14, 15-11, by Donevan Blue Raiders. The Redmen had advanced to the playoff round by breezing through the six team round robin earlier Saturday. The senior football team dropped its third game 48-0 to Pickering Trojans. The soccer team plays Thursday, October 11 in Pickering and the football team plays a day earlier in Uxbridge. Panthers defeat Mojacks (From Page 21) came 38 seconds after the second goal as Rick Evans took a pass from Grey Bullen * right from the "face-off and scored. It\iidn't take long for the Panthers to find the mark in the middle session. Lewis set up Bullen, who eluded a diving Bill Bridge, 1.32 after the opening whistle. Bullen added another one minute later. Merle Schewaga replaced Gibson between the pipes to start the third period. He turned in a respectable per- formance allowing one goal but he was not tested to the extent that Gibson had been. Clarke Menzies objected to the way Terry Highfield had taken him out of the play and the two squared offwith 12:55 to go. They wrestled for a few minutes and were sep- arated and given roughing minors. Twice during the final period the play was stopped to allow a fog over the ice to lift. The arena in Port Hope is part of a new sports complex that also includes a swimming pool next door. The fan system had appar- ently not adjusted properly and the fog became quite thick at times. Even after the fog had dissipated, the MoJacks continued to play as if it were still there. Rob Cannon missed a glor- ious scoring opportunity in the dying minutes of the match when he was foiled on a breakaway.
