NY VARS ER AA Scugog by Mrs. Earl Reader The Anniversary service at the Island Church was well attended by regular adherents and visitors but parents of many young child- ren took the day off. The orchestra was much enjoy- ed. Choir members are loyal and increasing in numbers again. The guest speaker Rev. M. Ferguson told of his life in the ministry and parti- cularly his work in Angola in Africa and how we tan relate to missions. About 56 remained for lunch and a jolly social time together. Bishop to visit in Port Perry The Suffragan Bishop of ~- Toronto, The Right Rever- end Allan A. Read, who is continuing a series of extend- ed visits to the various areas of the Anglican Diocese, will be spending October 28-30 in the region of Oshawa. Inclu- ded in this tour will be a variety of educational, social and liturgical events. Bishop Read will have many opportunities for pers- onal contact with the local residents as well as for dia- logue with both church and community leaders. Clergy and laity from the area have arranged an itin- erary for Bishop Read which includes visits to Brooklyn, Whitby, Ajax, Port Perry as well as Oshawa. Gloria Fralick has spent some time at her parental home as she was preparing for school opening when she had an unfortunate fall which resulted in a broken heel bone and crushed ankle. However the cast has been removed and she hopes to carry on her teaching duties in Toronto perhaps with some assistance. Head U.C.W. ladies will be in the Hospital Tuck Shop this week. Congratulations to Oliver Reader, a Scugog Island res- ident for many years, who will celebrate his 96th birth- day on October 18 at his Port Perry home. Mr. Reader is quite active and takes a keen interest in community and people he has known. Roberta Hamilton and Joyce Holtby wish to report that 10 Brownies will have a "fly up" ceremony on Octo- ber 24 to which their parents are invited and will be serv- ed tea. Brownies may "walk up" when all become new Guides. Congratulations to Rev. and Mrs. Chas.
