Peay AE, Ya ad Sg Se ERE 18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., October 24, 1979 Area farmers compete for Queen's Guineas The 4-H Queen's Guineas Steer Competition will set the stage for the first day of this year's 51st Royal Agri- cultural Winter Fair on November 8. This Youth Day event in the Main Colliseum will begin at 8:00 a.m. A public auction will be held in the Small Livestock Ring at 2:00 p.m. the same day. A total of 410 contestants from 25 counties in Ontario have been nominated, down from the record 465 last year. As in the past three years, Lambton and Grey lead all counties with 63 and 49 entries respectively. Middelsex and Elgin are close behind with 43 and 40 entries. This year's judge is John Willmott of Pense, Saskatchewan. Eight classes once again make up the competition. They include Aberdeen Angus, Herefords, Short- horns, Charolais-Cross, Simmental-Cross, Cross- breds and other Breeds. Limousin-Cross and Maine- Anjou Cross. The latter two were new classes last year. A minimum of 15 head of any one breed must be exhibited at the show to qualify as a separate breed. Otherwise those animals entered will be shown in the Crossbred class. For the second year there will be only two classifica- tions within each class - the single steer and the cham- pion and reserve steers. The Grand and Reserve Grand Champion and champions of each class will be on display in the Cattle Barn for the duration of the fair. Officiating clergymen were Rev. Robert Brawn and Rev. Glenn Noble of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. (Brother-in-law of the groom.) The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Solomon of Port Perry and the groom is the son of Mrs. Lloyd Hunter of Port Perry, and the late Mr. Leslie Faux. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a full length gown of nylon crystal- lette over taffetta, featuring an empire waist, full sleeves with wide cuffs, mandarin collar and flowed softly into a full chaplel train with a triple flounce of chantilly lace. The bodice and sleeves were of chantilly lace trimmed with seed pearls. A cap of nylon lace with seed pearls held a montilla style veil of silk illusion with chantilly lace edge. She carried a cascade of deep red roses and baby's breath. Miss Jane Bryant of R.R. 1 Oshawa, cousin of the bride acted as maid of honour. Bridesmaids were Miss Bonnie Short of Seagrave, and Miss Barbara Bell of R.R. 1 Oshawa. Flowergirls were Miss Laurel Solomon, niece of the bride and Miss Lesley Noble of Swift Current, niece of the groom. Mr. Dale McQuade of Port Perry, acted as best man. Ushers were Mr. Paul Beare of Port Perry and Mr. Mark Lee of Port Perry, nephew of the groom. Ringbearer was Master Trevor Solomon of Port Perry, nephew of the bride. Mr. Irwin Smith of R.R. 2 Port Perry, sang the "Hawiian Wedding Song" after the bride was seated. He also sang "The Lord's Prayer" during the Holy Sacrament of Communion and the "Wedding Prayer" during the signing of the register. The reception followed at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall. Receiving the guests was the mother of the bride wearing a burgandy full' length gown accented with a cape, and the groom's mother wearing a full length cream gown accented with a taupe chiffon cape. The couple spent their honeymoon at the Summint resort in the Pocono Mount- ains, P.A. The newleyweds will reside on Orchard Drive, Apple Valley, Port Perry. Prior to the wedding the bride was entertained at several showers. Aunt of the bride, Mrs. Helen Solomon gave a miscellaneous family shower at her home in Oshawa. Aunts of the groom Mrs. Myrtle Adamson of Uxbridge, and Mrs. Marge Mason of Toronto gave a Jack and Jill Shower at Centennial Park, Whitby. Friends of the bride, Mrs. June Maughan, Miss Judy Wray and Mrs. Velma Wray gave a pantry shower at the home of Mrs. Velma Wray, R.R. 2 Port Perry. Cousin of the bride, Miss Janet Bryant maid of honour, Mrs. Burn- ess Bryant, aunt of the bride and Mrs. Bonnie Solomon gave a miscellaneous shower at the home of Mrs. Bonnie Solomon, Port Perry. Miss Bonnie Short and Miss Bar- bara Bell R.R. 1 Oshawa, bridesmaids, gave a miscell- aneous shower at the home of Miss Barbara Bell of R.R.1 Oshawa. Sister of the groom Mrs. Isabel Lee, gave a miscellaneous shower at her home in Port Perry. Co-workers of Emmerson Insurance Agency Ltd. entertained the bride at a shower luncheon in the Banquet Room of Emiel's Place. A stag party for the groom was held at the Scu- gog Community Hall arrang- ed by Bestman Dale McQuade and ushers Paul Beare and Mark Lee. Following the rehearsal, the bridal party was enter- tained at the home of the groom's parents Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hunter, Port Perry. Greenbank UCW by Helen Thomson The Evening Unit of the Greenbank U.C.W. met in the Church basement on Wednesday, October 3rd at 10am. The Group in charge, Mary Jean Till, and Jean Rodd, served coffee and homemade breads and then conducted the Devotional on Thanksgiving. Marie Cook- man accompanied the sing- ing on the piano. Betty Stone led in a lively sing-song. Mary Jean then called on Mrs. Susan Yandt to show and demonstrate her "Tup- perware". Some of the proceeds from the sale of the Tupperware goes to the U.C.W. to help with their Church work. Elma Roundell, President, chaired the meeting for a short Business period. Eunice Rahm read the Minutes and Marie Foster gave the Treasurer's Report. We were reminded that we are catering to the Plow- man's Banquet on November 8th, and that ur U.C.W. is invited to the Rama U.C.W. Meeting on Tuesday, Octo- ber 9th. The cars will be leaving at 6 o'clock. The meeting closed with everyone repeating the Mizpah Benediction. » QJ
