Port Perry Ont LOB TNO Girls basketball teams show impressive play by Ellen Buller It may only be the second month in the school year but the student services depart- ment and the senior students are already busy preparing for next year. Mr. McNair, the head of our student services depart- ment, has arranged to have several speakers in to talk about their respective pro- fessions. This exchange may help students decide on var- ious careers, from hairdress- ing to nuclear science. We hope that Career week (the first is from October 29 to November 2) will be repeat- ed throughout the year. Don't forget grade 13 stud- ents, your applications to university are to be filled out in November. All week our school ath- letes have been busy in games, tournaments and other various activities. Our girls' basketball teams did well in three games on Monday. The girls travelled to Bowmanville where our senior and junior teams won and our midget team lost. The Redman football team went to the Civic auditorium in Oshawa on Thursday where they fought a losing battle against Anderson. Our volleyball team also travelled. They went to the LOSSA West Tournament in Pickering on Thursday and ended up fourth out of six teams. Then on Friday, October 19, the Port Perry High School boys' soccer team went to Har- wood. Unfortunately the Harwood team in Ajax de- feated us but not without a difficult battle. The score was very close with only a one point difference. Even our field hockey team was busy. The girls travelled to the LOSSA Tour- EL TE TT "This is the first time our field 'dress-up day at school and nament held in Alexander Park in Oshawa on Friday. hockey team went this far in competition. Next year we'll go even farther. Congratu- lations should be extended to all athletes in the school for their continuing efforts. Even after all of this activ- ity 30 of our athletes still had energy left over for Saturday (rent an athlete day). The rain held off all" day and leaves were raked and wind- ows washed as scheduled. Because of our town's supp- ort we raised $200.00 to buy equipment for the school. Thanks for your support and co-operation, Port Perry. Another Rent an Athlete day is already being planned for the spring. Hopefully, even more money will be raised to be used for the needed equip- ment. Our music department is still in the process of selling oranges and grapefruit. Sales are going extremely well-even better than last year because of repeat orders from happy custom- ers. The delivery date is close to Christmas, just in time for use as stocking stuffers. Take advantage of the good quality citrus pro- ducts being sold and buy, buy, buy! . Hallowe'en is coming up fast and this will be very evident on Friday at Port Perry High School It's all students are asked to drag out those crazy masks and costumes. So don't be frightened if you see ghosts and witches walking towards the school bright and early Friday. Hallowe'en hasn't started yet. A fitting conclusion to that day would be to have a dance. So be it! M.G.'s Disco is returning to school becuase of popular demand. Barb Elliot [right] shows determination as she The doors open at 8:30 and patties ynder the basket with Bowmanville player during recent high school senior girls match won by the dance concludes at 11:30. By the way, the dance is free to all activity card holders, "Ort Perry.
