PRE MA LE 13, SVAN EY (From Page 20) was caught out of position on a two on one break after 2:08 of the second. Jamie McKay made the red light flash on an assist from Glen Gibson. Rob Garrow converted a three way passing play at 9:18 of the second period when he took a Phil Coch- rane set up and beat Clip's goalie Dean Howse. Kemp drew an assist. Charley Brown, who has been given a regular shift on the blue line, scored the tying goal right from the face-off midway through the session. Stu Cochrane fed Brown the puck and Brown found the net. Phil Cochrane put the Mo- Jacks ahead with 5:46 to play in the period on an unassist- ed goal. Cochrane is often an over enthusiastic puck carr- ier but this time it worked to his advantage. Bruce Rugelis tied the score for the Clippers when he went around the defence pairing of Jones and Kemp and beat Gibson with a wrist shot late in the period. Glen Gibson netted a Steve Spang rebound to give the Clips the lead in the waning moments of the period. With 13:42 remaining in the game, Phil Cochrane tied the score once again. Dave Alexander and Jobb helped him out. Kevin Bartley scored the winning marker when he blocked a Robertson slap shot at his own blue line. Bartley passed it to Gibson who was stopped by Kemp but Bartley managed to get behind Robertson again and put it past Port's Gibson. TWO VICTORIES Merle Schewaga came up with two stellar performanc- es as Port Perry won 8-6 over Cobourg Cougars and 7-5 over Lindsay Muskies. The MoJacks won the Cobourg game Monday, Oct- ober 15 with two shorthanded goals in the third period. Steve Geer scored two goals and Tim Kane chipped in two assists in the win against Lindsay, Friday, October 19. The MoJacks completed what may be the toughest week of the schedule. Coach Scott used every player available to him, even if it meant juggling lines, which he did more often than any other coach. At the beginn- ing of the season, he teamed Phil Cochrane with Healey and Kane to provide the team with its top line. When he did that he usually put Stu Cochrane between Bridgew an and one of the first year players. On one occasion, in the Stouffville loss, Scott played center Clark Menz- ies, right winger Dave Alex- ander, and left winger Rob Cannon, all rookies, on one line. One problem that will have to be ironed out is the shaki- ness of defence. Mental errors by the backliners and failure to pick up players in the goal mouth, have cost the MoJacks a lot of goals. The MoJacks are now sporting a record of four INSTANT PASSPORT PHOTOS Ready while you wait. MoJacks will travel to Ux- bridge this Friday evening for a game against the Bruins. Last year, Uxbridge was the doormat in the Jun- ior C league, but this season the team is apparently great- ly improved. MoJacks return home to Scugog Arema this Sunday evening when the Stouffville Clippers will be in town. Certainly, the Port Perry squad will be out to make amends for the 6-5 defeat they took at the hands of the Clippers on October 17. No Xk ROSE" PIER APRA PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., October 24, 1979 -- 25 Legionaires drop opening game to Stouffville by Danny Millar Stouffville scored three un- answered goals in the last two periods to hand the Port Perry Pee Wee B Hockey Legionnaires their first loss. The game on Saturday, Octo- ber 20 was the season opener for the Legionnaires. Speedy Left winger Martin Wells led the visiting Stouff- ville club with three goals and an assist. His initial marker came six seconds after a Port Perry power play as he won a face-off to the left hand side of Legionn- aire goalie Stephen Patter- son. It came with 1:27 gone in the second period. Patterson played a very strong game between the pipes for the Legionnaires. Mid-way through the first fifteen minute segment he made breakaway stops on Danny Salisbury and Jeff Wilkinson when the score was still tied at 1-1. He also made a number of key saves in the second before being taken out of the game with 6:38 to go. Chris Cookman replaced him and allowed two goals, one more than Patterson. All three Port Perry goals were unassisted. Jeff Wray got the first one merely eight seconds after the puck had hit the ice to start the game. Wray got another score on a lucky play as the centerman carried the puck around the Stouffville net, and deposited it between the legs of netmin- der Dave Bellerby. This goal came 30 seconds after Well's first. Port Perry's only other goal went in of the stick of Darren Ceans. Ceans re- moved the puck from a Stouffville blueliner, rushed in and beat Rick Vallee with a nifty deke, with 14 seconds showing in the first session. Salisbury set up the winn- ing goal with a long pass to David Collins late in the second period. The play originated in the Stouffville end where Salisbury passed off to Collins in the neutral zone. Collins went in alone on Cookman and won the match with a low wrist shot to the glove side. Wells netted his hat trick goal with 9:46 remaining in the match. He emerged from a goal-front scramble with a piece of black rubber and fired it across the red line. A penalty to Steve Solomon with 3:45 to go nullified any chance of a comeback by the hometowners. Karl Durham had one good scoring oppor- tunity but was thwarted by Bellerby. The game was a very tame one. The only hint of vio- lence came late in the first when Wray collided with an opposing player along the boards and when they both fell to the ice, Wray pum- melled him with half of dozen knuckles. Besides this, the game went accord- ing to schedule with no un- necessary delays.
