12 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., October 31, 1979 Blackstock by Joyce Kelly A fine crowd of relatives and friends attended the Canada Cord Ceremony on Sunday evening in the United Church when the highest award in Guiding was pres- ented to Tracey Cochrane, Sharon Holliday, Elizabeth Kelly and Robynn Ward. The programme began with the processional of Brownies, Guides, Pathfind- ers and Rangers led by a colour party. After the singing of G Canada the Colours were received by Mrs. Taylor. Rev. V. Pars- ons welcomed the young people and the friends on behalf of the Board of the United Church and also offered his congratulations to the four honoured Guides. Miss Susan Sheen, District Commissioner chaired an in- teresting programme in which girls from all groups participated. It was based on the words Girl Guide with each letter being acted out. Miss Sheen presented the Canada Cords to the four girls after which presentat- and area news items ions to the Canada Cord Guides were made by the Brownies and Guides, the Local Association, the Wood- land Division, the Mothers' Auxiliary and the parents of the girls. The four girls then made a surprise presenta- tion of flowers to their mothers. The Rangers invited the four girls to advance to their group. Following closing prayers and Taps, Rev. V. Parsons gave his commiss- ioning and blessing. The colours were presented by Mrs. Taylor after which the Colour Parties and groups had a formal recessional. A reception in honour of the four girls was given by their parents in the Christian Education Room following the programme. The lovely tea table was graced by a floral arrangement in red and white, the colours of the Canada Cord flanked by red burning tapers. The Senior grades of the Public School held a Hallo- we'en Dance at the school on Friday after school The Couples Club held a masquarade party on Satur- day evening at the home of Bruce and Judy Crawford with 12 couples attending. The best dressed couple was decided as Audrey and Eddy Brown, the most original Elsie Simmons, the weirdest Larry Mackie. Winners of other contests were Marilyn and Grant Burnford, Rodger Simmons and Bruce Craw- ford. Recently Mrs. Roy Me- Laughlin, Mrs. Doug Sleep, Mrs.Harold Larmer and Mrs. Harold Martyn attend- ed a Ministry of Agriculture Training Course on Indoor Gardening at Maple Grove. The course included plant growing, propagation, grow- ing of Cacti, terrariums, dish gardens and the making of a macrame plant hanger as well as cooking with herbs grown in your own home. These ladies hope to hold the first of a two evening session on Thursday, November 15. Please contact one of the ladies. The Senior Citizens had 24 tables at the weekly Tuesday evening card party.
