AREA LAA © SEAT Ea AOE ; HAY EAN Sys Sunday Morning League Bethany MoHawks defeat Legionaires 5-3 - by Danny Millar The Bethany MoHawks overcame a 3-0 defecit to defeat Port Perry Legionn- aires 5-3 in Lake Scugog Hockey League play Sunday October 21, The loop is more commonly known as the Sun- day Morning League. All Port Perry goals came in the first period. Pete Taylor blasted a low, hard slapshot along the ice past Alex Servinis after 6:33 had elapsed. It came on a power play. The second Legionnaire score came on another low shot as defenceman Steve Groves let one go from the point and forward Larry Page deflected it into the mesh. It came 8:30 after the opening whistle. Port Perry played a strict style of defence in the first period, where instead of forechecking opposing puck carriers, they line up along their own blue line and pick up the forwards coming down the ice. It worked for about half the game and was aided by key saves from goaltended Phil Stanski, who made a neat stop on a Dale H.T.W.H.: Marj. Harrison- 729. FORD UNVEILS THE 1st NEW MEDIUM DUTY TRUCK OFT DESIGNEDWITH ~~ HE 80's. Jewell breakaway. In the latter stages of the initial period Bethany fore- checked tenaciously and hemmed Port inside their own blue line often. This strategy began to pay off in the second period. The MoHawks got on the board with 6:17 to go in the second as Port was playing two men shorthanded. The second goal of the session came five minutes later on a picturesque passing play be- tween Vaughn Wright and Jewell, on a two on one. They broke into the clear inside the Legionnaire blue line, Wright taking out Stanski with a clean deke -and slipping the puck over to Jewell, who tipped it in for the score. The Hawks exploded with three unanswered goals in the last 20 minutes to take the hard fought skirmish. They tied the score with a flukey power play goal from Andy Schewaga. Stanski made an initial stop but the puck popped into the air where Schewaga took a swipe at it, knocking it into the net. The winning goal came off Schewaga's stick again as he flipped the puck over the Port goaler. Pat Lynch added an empty net insur- ance goal which hit the net from inside center. The only physical outbreak in the entertaining game was a last minute wrestling match between Bill Haines of Port Perry and a Bethany skater. * First New Medium-duty Trucks of the 80's ... new Ford F-Series.
