y * King Tut buffs, responding to a needlepoint competition sponsored by a Canadian magazine last June, submitt- ed 549 entries which were judged earlier this week by a letters The Library (From page 5) start canvassing and see how much co-operation you'll get. Why don't you take a poll and find out how many are in favour of all this expense when there's a recession staring us in the face and people are finding it hard enough to make ends meet. As for the people from Greenbank, Seagrave, and Blackstock having to walk in because they can't find park- ing places at the library, how stupid do they think we are? If they have so much money why don't they fix up the disgraceful parking lot be- hind the Post Office so people won't have the park- ing problems they have now for shopping in our town. At no time in 20 years have I had a problem parking near the library. The roaming regional gov- ernment are wondering why people aren't flocking out to see them and tell them our problems. What's the use? It's the same thing in other communities. We have acres and acres of noxious weeds that no one is made to spray or control. We have all kinds of street lights on some streets and Count (From page 5) thought it was time to stop spending money on projects we can ill-afford. I just can't believe it. Council, that brilliant bunch who make an $80,000 goof in the budget, and then say they'll mail us a refund (anybody seen it?) go ahead with a project that a fair number of tax-payers don't want, as interest rates sky-rocket. I don't think council can count. Just wait till the next election - Council will be counting then, and if I can help it, Wolters and Crosier will be the only ones getting back in. What a fool I was voting in a bunch of spend- thrifts. Sure as heck the tax bill will be going up another 20 mills next year. Yours truly, John R. Powell, R.R. 1 Blackstock none on others. What the dickens does the council care about these little things when they can spend the money on other and more expensive luxuries. Have they ever heard of a flood retaining wall about 5 feet high around the library building that could be water- proof to prevent hurricane flooding they are all of a sudden worrying about. I'll agree the library does need an expansion or reno- vating, but $300,000 worth? That sounds like an awful lot of money for a thirty or forty foot expansion. It sounds like they planned on getting enough for a whole new library rather than expand- ing the one we have and want. I doubt if all that much is necessary for an expansion and new books so how about buying a couple of (Library only parking) signs for the side street beside the library or would that be asking to much. I've never found the library that crowd- ed that it wouldn't have held a dozen or more people besides myself and the staff, and I go in weekly. Come on folks, I don't want to be the only one to say what I think. I'm only trying to keep our council on a check rein and get them to spend our money on things that are necessary. As for all the government grants who the heck pays that! Us, of course. I am also disappointed in our Legion. I thought they felt the same way about our War Memorial Library that the rest of us do. Why the change of heart? Oh well, we're paying the bills, so what do they care? But wait until election time comes around. Then we hope there will be a new choice of councillors. I'm thinking of the future too. What about our kids and people moving into our town, do they want to be saddled with the debts and interest that all this is going to cost. Let's keep expenses down and make it a town we can afford to live in and enjoy.
