SS ----_ Adena -- asisi deine C and B wins consolation Broomball teams in tourney by Dave Dalton This ,past weekend, Nov- ember 24 and 25 the Port Perry Broomball League was proud to have four of their teams entered in the Innisfil Men's Broomball League Tournament in Lefroy. The Port Perry teams started play Saturday morn- ing with Beacock's Hard- ware losing a squeaker to CFB Borden 1-0. This Base team was the Canadian Forces champs last season and Beacock's stayed with them in a good two-way game not allowing the goal until there was 2:20 left to play. The first period saw Rick McLean stop 4 penalty shot. Emmerson's was tre next Port team to play and came out like "barnstormers" with Doug Mappin scoring an unassisted goal in the first two minutes. They couldn't get anymore as Molson's Canadians came back with four goals for the victory. It should be noted that Bill Gerber turned in a good performance in the nets even stopping a two-man break- away. C & B Livestock played a chase-em game against the Provincial Finalist Ivy Rangers and came out on the wrong end of a 2-0 score. C & B had their chances but couldn't put the ball past Earl Elliott in the Ivy nets. Keith Fraser turned in his usual steady performance, and in the eyes of this party the goaltenders in this league are among the best in the Region. I'm sorry to say I don't have the game sheet for the Utica-Northern Telecom game but Utica came out with a 5-1 win, totally out playing the opposition who spent a fair amount of time in the penalty box. Don Card's shutout was spoiled late in the game on a good goal. Beacock's played the final game on Saturday against the Barrie Blazers and came away with a 2-0 win. The goal scorers were Ron Wagg from Gary Johnston and Wayne McGui- gan from Keith Dalton. Sunday morning we were all back up there again and Emmersons lost 4-0 to Easy 'Time of Sarnia to put them out of the tournament. C & B then put out North- ern Telecom, the team Utica beat Saturday by a 2-1 score. C 9 B went up missing players like Rob Evans and Ron Redman so it was up to the rest of the team to come through and they did as Mark Lee from Kevin Marten and Ken Jeffrey from Don Phinney potted the goals. Utica now had the misfor- tune of playing the Ivy Rangers and held them off to one goal in the first period. Utica tried vainly to get a goal or two, but it wasn't to be as Ivy scored three second period goals to rise to a 4-0 win thus putting Utica out. Beacock's needed this win to put them in the Consola- tion final, but they came out listlessly in the first thirty minutes and were down 2-0. They started applying the pressure with about minutes to go but didn't score until there was sixteen seconds left and they had pulled their goaltender. Keith Dalton from Gary Toutant scored in the losing cause leaving just C & B to go anywhere. In their Consolation semi- final C & B routed Easy Time in a 4-0 win led by Mark Lee their captain. Mark scored the lone goal of the first period with the assist going to Bruce Woodrow. Lee then assisted on the next three goals with Kevin Marten getting two of them and Bruce Woodrow netting the last one. Again C & B came through with a 4-0 win and giving them the Consolation award. They doused any hope Unilock had of winning right from the start. Ken Bryant scored unassisted four min- utes into the game. Both J . ] EE RL Lism abay vein ' ' RA LI} ' I PORT PERRY STAR a Wed. November 28, 1979 --- 11 Lady curlers hold first 1979 bonspiel by Phyllis Geer The House of Howard Lady's Bonspiel was held at the Port Perry Curling Club on Saturday November 24th, 1979. This was the first bonspiel of the year for the lady curlers with 16 rinks participating. New curlers had their first opportunity to enter a bonspiel and for those who did, would find it to be a rewarding exper- ience. At the end of a good day of curling and socializing the trophy winners were: Jan Towns (Skip), Phyllis Geer (Vice), Karel Nottingham (second) and Susan Parlia- ment (Lead). A very close second went to Noreen Mal- colm, Kathy Gundry, Alice Edgar, and Dianne Gatchell. Third: Ellen Gibson, Karen. Parish, Dianne Tobin, Mar- guerite Vince. Fourth: Hoppy Carnwith, Norma Cornish, Jean Robertson and Carol Williamson. Fifth: Helen Parish, Mary June Smith, Cathy Evans and Karen Lomax. Mar) Jackson, Louise Haugen, Judy Latta and Nancy Teno made several threatening attempts to capture the trophy, but unfortunately were unable to pull it off. Mary Alexander, Bonspiel Chairman, and Kathy Gundry and her Social Committee, deserve a lot of credit for making this day enjoyable for all part- icipants. Helen Parish, President, presented the trophy to the winning rink on behalf of Howard Hall, who could not attend due to other committ- ments. JOHN EADES WELL DRILLING Sunderland - Ontario - (705) 357-3386 teams ended the period with- out anymore, but in the second Ken Jeffrey from Bruce Woodrow, Kevin Martens unassisted and Ken Fraser from Don Phinney finished it. Congratulations to all the teams who played good, clean broomball over the Tournament.
