Port Perry Lions Club First Annual Tournament saw two Port Perry teams and six visiting teams compete for Championship trophies in a mixed age and Belle category. The tourmanemt produced some excellent competition particularly between two visiting Lindsay Mixed Age teams who played to break a tie score through one three minute overtime and then seven minutes without goalies on either team until finally a goal was scored to produce a winner. The Belle Championship between Oro Township and Whitby was an excellently played game on both sides that went into overtime before we had our winning team from Oro. Our Belle team played a strong game against Hast- ings to win 9-2 in their first game of the Tournament. It was early in the day but Wendy McDougall, Paula Haugen and Daphne Butt all scored 2 goals each, Sherri Allen and Karen Young each scored one, assists credited to Doris Riseborough with 2, Sherri Allen, Sharon Ash- more and Jodi Johnstone. Our sportsmanship award for this game went to Karen Young for her "Gung-ho" team spirit. In their second game our Belle Bombers came up against the strong Whitby club. Try as we might only Wendy McDougall dented their - net for one gdhl assisted by Chris Heurkins. The final score was 6-1 for Whitby. On our last outing against Whitby we lost 15-3 so Coach Judy Young was extremely pleased with her team's effort and feels they'll do better still the next time against Whitby. Sportsman- ship Award for this game awarded to Cheryl Dohery ~for her all out effort. Mixed Age On Saturday Nov. 24, it was a big day for Port Perry Ringette. We held our first Tournament which was very successful. We had a mixed team consisting of a line of Petites 10 and under, Tweens 12 and under and Juniors 14 and under. In the first game we played the Lindsay Ringers. Port Perry Ives came out flying and we started with our Petites and they scored the first goal coming at 1 minute 15 seconds after the first whistle. From then on the girls never looked back. The score ended up 16-0 but this is the first year for Lindsay and I am sure they gained a great deal of experience. Scoring for Port Perry was their captain Rhonda White TRUCK CAPS BEST PRICES Special Fibreglass Cap - Reg. $699.
