A £ BT EE a i FN ALE SE £153 v Senior girls basketball team goes under 56-31 by Danny Millar Port Perry High School's Senior girls basketball team finished their regualr season two weeks ago but continue to compete on the exhibition circuit. On Tuesday, November 20 they were soundly beaten 56-31 by GW Williams Warblers of Aurora. Williams got off to a quick start as they accumulated 11 first quarter points out of the 1-3-1 offensive set. The Redmen came up empty, as every one of their shots missed. Port Perry really came on in the second quarter with a defensive press that turned the ball into the hands of Kelly Owen and Wendy Bracken often. After 16 minutes of action Port had narrowed the margin to 19- 16. The Warblers regained command in the third quar- ter and grabbed a ten point lead when Elaine Steenhort hit two free throws with one second left. They blew the game wide open in the final frame. Barbara Jones led Williams with 17 points and Steenhort had 16. Leslie Forder had 16 points for the Redmen, doubling the amount of Terry Henderson, her nearest teammate. The junior girls team advanced to the Central Ontario Secondary School Athletics Championships -with a win on Saturday, at O'Neil Collegiate in Oshawa.
