The tower was struck by lightning earlier this summer, loosening some bricks and shingles. Time has also taken its toll on the building with the south side of the tower in need of work from weather damage. A spokesman for the United Church says that although the original estimate for repairs was about $8,000, it now seems more likely to cost close to $15,000 for the repair work. Part of this is covered by insurance and the remainder will be picked up by the church. Friendly Visitors Friendly visitors have had a busy fall. Our activities started with Port Perry Fair. A sincere thank you for free admission tickets. Several afternoons of games and bingo were enjoyed in Prince Albert Community Centre. In October we enjoy- ed a bus trip to Orono to Reforestration area. Our Hallowe'en party was made perfect by music for dancing supplied by Mrs. Annie Toombs. Our November meetings have been spent making Christmas crafts. We are looking forward to our White Cross party in Oshawa on Dec. 10 and to our Christmas dinner at Community Centre on Dec. 18. The White Cross Christmas Drop boxes are now out and all donations will bring a Merry Christmas for someone. QF PORT PERRY.
