After three good games of hockey, Port Perry came home victorious. In the first game against Parry Sound, Port defeated this team 4-2. Parry Sound " opened the scoring at 3:40 of the first period. Malmont Farms Atoms matched this goal at 4:54, scored by David Burnett assisted by David Culbert, but 37 seconds later Parry Sound went ahead once again. John Lally tied the score in the second period on a rebound from David Burnett. The score remained tied until the dying minutes of the game when Parry Sound picked up the only penalty of the game, with 3:13 remaining, for delaying the game. Port Perry capitalized on a power play goa] by David Burnett assisted by David Culbert with 3:04 remaining in the game. Port's John Harmon picked up the insurance goal atl:01 to complete the score of the game. The Port boys put forth an excellent team effort in this game and came out with rewarding results. The second - game saw Malmont Farms Atoms matched up with MacTier. The boys - played another excellent game defeating MacTier 6-0. Port rounded off each period with two goals. John Harmon started off the score assisted by Robbie Baker. From there it was: John Lally from David Burnett and David Culbert; David Burnett unassisted; Ray Farms. Daniels unassisted when he stole the puck and went in alone; Mark Barkey from Blair Phillips; and Robbie Baker from John Harmon. Steven Whalen earned the shut-out honours making several excellent saves. Game three was the big game of the day when Port met Bracebridge, who is the top team of their league. The boys knew they had their hands full and there was no room for errors. Bracebridge picked up the first goal on a power play with Port having a man off for tripping. Port's John Harmon picked up two goals in the first period putting Port ahead of Bracebridge 2-1. The score remained the same throughout the second period and on into the third. John Lally scored for Port in the third to relieve some of the pressure. With 2:10 remaining in the game, Bracebridge picked up a goal when the Brace- bridge player went in alone on Port's goalie. Tension mounted from there, with pile-ups in front of Port's net. Bracebridge pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker. Port, determined to hold their lead, did every- thing they could to get the puck out of their end. Finally time ran out, and the Malmont Farms Atoms well earned a victory. Stacey Ballingall played an excell- ent game in goal for Port. There were no assists given in this game, but I am sure if they gave assists every member of the Mal- mont Atoms would have earned one. They played super and all members deserve equal credit. It was definitely team effort all the way. Members of the Malmont Farms Atoms are: Stacey Ballingal, Steve Whalen, Bobby Goble, Warren Geer, Robbie Baker, John Harmon, Steven Durham, Brian Dean, Dave Burnett, John Lally, Dave Culbert, Scott Feasby, Blair Phillips, Brad Menzies, Ray Daniels, Mark Barkey and Robbie Jamieson. Coach-Dave Barkey, Assistant coach- Dave Ballingall and Mana- ger Bob Jamieson." Congrat- ulations! Mark Barkey and Robbie Jamieson were brought up from the Selects to play in this tournament and were an asset to the team. Following the champion- ship game, coach Dave Barkey commented: "After playing a tough game against Lindsay last night (Friday) the boys came out and played three good games today. I am glad it didn't go onto overtime, the boys were getting tired. I am very proud of the boys." Manager "Punch"' commented: 'Heck of a game. The boys worked hard not just two but the whole team, goalies, defense, for- wards, including the help from the Selects. It was just a super game. I got through the game with butterflies and jutters, but no problems. House League Results | NOVICE HOUSE LEAGUE Sportsland-2 Scugog Lumber-0 Sportsland defeated Scugog Lumber 2 to 0. Port Perry and Uxbridge have each won a game and have tied twice. Hopefully Port will break the tie and win the next game from our neighbouring town. On Saturday Dec. 8, on home ice, the Novice hosted Cobourg and came out behind 4-1. Our opponents were a big strong skating team and Pearce Auction- eers felt they were in trouble 'when Cobourg scored 2 goals in the first period. But then our defenceman Derek Lewis scored the loan marker assisted by Michael Sorley, thus spoiling the shutout for Cobourg. The breaks weren't there for Port Perry as they desparately tried to make a comeback. Again, Cobourg scored 2 more goals to bring them to a positive win. The coaches want to commend the boys for play- ing good hard hockey and giving an all-out effort against a more powerful team. Atoms Selects win, lose games by Doreen Kendall Two games this past week- end saw the Don Forder Insurance Atom Selects pick up a well deserved win and a sound defeat. Friday Dec. 7, the Forder Selects hosted the Bruins from Oshawa Little N.H.L. and put forth a super effort to come out on top of the 2 to 1 score. Both teams put forth a good skating and passing game. Scoring for the Selects was Andrew Steele from Robbie Jamieson and Mark Barkey from Michael Gibson and Brad Traves. No penalties were assessed. Sunday the Forder Selects journeyed to Ajax and . received a sound thumping 8 to 1. The bottom seemed to fall out of their defensive game and they simply could not skate with the Ajax boys. Three of our regulars were missing from the lineup and this could account for some of the problems. The only marker for Port was picked up by Mark Barkey on a penalty shot. Three penalties were given out 2 to Ajax and 1 to Port Perry. Sat. Dec. 15th is our next home game at 6:30 against Manvers. Come out and cheer us on. WILLIAMSON ( For the Best Deals on New G.M.
