J ) Figures for Durham Region October crime rate shows levelling off | The crime rate in Durham Region during October levelled off to a rate which police chief Jon Jenkins terms the best in 1979. Compared to October, 1978 figures the number of criminal code offences in Durham appears to have stabilized. Last October there were 1.808 criminal code offences committed in the region, exactly one less that the number committed in Octo- ber 1978. "I don't have a reason for it, I just hope it's a trend," a delighted Jenkins said Friday. "If this keeps up we'll have a merry Christmas," he added. Jenkins said the police keep track of the increase in crime by comparing one month's figures to the corresponding figures of the previous year.
