' 2 ow Council elects new members to committees Durham Region council spent several hours last week voting new members to the five standing committees for 1980, and when it was all over, the make-up of those committees of council had changed very little. Scugog councillor Reg Rose retained his position as chairman of the planning committee of council, and the same was true for the chairmen of the four other standing committees: Gary Herrema (Uxbridge) public works; Allan Dewar (Oshawa) management; John Aker (Oshawa) fin- ance; and John -DeHart (Oshawa) social services. Scugog mayor Jerry Taylor, who was not present at the meeting last week, was re-elected to his spot on A kiss he'll never forget An early morning Kiss turned out to be a rather expensive one for a young Port Perry area man. The mishap occurred early Saturday morning, and the driver told Durham Region Police he lost control of the car while kissing his girlfriend. The car went off the Concession Road, into the ditch, and wound up with damage estimated at $600. No charges have been laid. the finance committee of council. About the only significant change from a political point of view was the fact that maverick Oshawa councillor Ed Kolodzie is no longer on the social services commit- _ tee, but is now a member of the management committee. Oshawa mayor Jim Potti- cary, who earlier this year, had stated openly that he wanted to be on the social services committee, got his wish last week, although he was not present at the meeting. In fact, the voting for membership on the five standing committees, was so ordinary, that in all there were only six changes in the make-up of the 1980 committees. Councillors Ivan Hobbs (Newcastle) and Bob Atters- ley (Whitby) were named to the Durham Region Police Commission, replacing councillors Allan Dewar and Ajax Mayor Clark Mason. All members of the council's social services committee will sit on the Region's board of health for 1980. .The appointment of Scugog Mayor Jerry Taylor to the Central Lake Ontario' Conservation Authority was confirmed last week by Regional council, as was the appointment of Township (Turn to page 18) Three cars in accident A three car accident last Wednesday afternoon at the 'intersection of Regional Roads 21 and 23 caused extensive damage and resulted in charges against a Sunderland area man. Durham Police report that the accident occurred when a vehicle struck the rear of a stopped car, pushing it into the back of another car. There were no injuries as a result of the accident, but police have charged William James Allen, 58, of R.R.2 Sunderland with impaired driving. % SORRY ... WE WILL CLOSE FOR WINTER ON DEC. 29th.
