The stickers went on sale December 1, but a spokes- man for the Port Perry office on Water Street told the Star last week that as usual, the sales were very slow in December. Most people, it seems, will wait until just before the February 28 deadline to pick up stickers for their cars. The office spokesman did say that those people who have bought their 1980 stick- ers, are those who usually beat the rush every year, anyway. No matter, when you decide to buy your sticker, motorists will be happy to know that the price tag is the same as last year: $30. for a four-cylinder; $45. for a six- cylinder and $60. for a gas guzzling V-8. The Port Perry registra- tion office is located in the plaza at the corner of Water Street and Highway 7A. Saltman of Tor- onto, was appointed at the end of September by the Education Relations Commission, and a provin- cial meditator has now been appointed to try to bring the two sides closer to an agreement. In her report, released Dec. 21, Mrs. Slater says that while there appears to be agreement on numerous items, the sides are "far apart on a number of major issues, in particular, pupil- teacher ratio-staff alloca- tion." The two sides also appear to far apart on the issue of wages, with the teachers reps asking for an 11.2 per cent increase in the first year, and an increase in the second year pegged to the increase in the cost of living.
