A E050 AS TR BBLS y ETI HAT Atom All Stars drop game to Peterborough Open1980 season trouncing Port Hope 13-1 On Friday, Dec. 21, 1979, Malmont Farms Atoms met Peterborough for the first match between these two teams. Port Atoms played well although they were defeated 5-1. Peterborough have a big strong team and place at the top of the ladder in league standings. Port made Peterborough work hard for their five goals, and goalies for Port, Stacey Ballingall - and Steven Whalen came up with many good saves, Steven Durham picked up the lone marker for Port, when he made a nice move at Port's blue line, stole the puck and scored on a break- away, with seven seconds remaining in the game, to break Peterborough's shut- out. Following this game, Coach Dave Barkey, assist- ant coach Dave Ballingall and manager Bob Jamieson presented the boys with individual pictures of the players, along with a trophy with engraving: Graven- hurst and Oak Ridges Tournament Champions which also included the boys name and number. This was a Christmas gift to the boys from their coaches and manager. The Atom All Stars very much appreciated the kindness of their coaches and manager and at this time wish to sincerely thank them. The Malmont Farms Atoms had a very quiet week of hockey during the Christ- mas break, with only one practice and no hockey games scheduled. The lake has become a popular spot for the Malmont Atoms, taking advantage of the excellent skating conditions. The coaches have called the Atoms together for a few hockey drills and scrimages at the Lake front. On Friday, January 4th, the Malmont Atoms started off the 1980 season with an excellent game played against Port Hope. Port Perry defeated this team by a score of 13-1. Port Atoms played good positional hockey with many good passes setting up several goals, which was enjoyed by. their viewers. The line of Brad Menzies, Ray Daniels and Blair Phillips have worked very hard all season and were rewarded in this game pick- ing up two goals. These boys work together very well, Church League (From page 10) John Bronsma came up with" & big effort and some dazzl- ing reflexes to keep the - visitors from romping away with the game. Upon my suggestion to head coach Frank Glasber- gen that voting any other member of the team as Most Valuable Player would be nothing short of a crime, he wholeheartedly agreed and told me that his goalie was precisely the reason that his team would defeat the Baptists. He may be right. Although the Port Perry Baptists are laughing away to another championship, seriously challenged only by Lindsay, the Christian Reformed team is leading their league in points, goals for and against, and there is little 'comparison between the two leagues. Rumours have it that the Baptists are looking for a more 'competitive league but are not consider- ing the P.R.C.R.H.L. because of its violence, of which I've seen very little. However, both squads are looking forward to an exhibition match against each other, which will probably be played under the gentler Baptist rules. TRENTWAY TOURS .... David Culbert started the score for Port on a pass from David Burnett and Scott Feasby. With 23 seconds left in the first period, Warren Geer scored on a pass from Dave Burnett. John Harman made it 3-0 on a pass from Steven Durham, before Port Hope scored while Port Perry had a man in the penalty box. The second period saw three more goals for Port when Robbie Baker received a pass off the stick of John Harman and put in past the Port Hope goalie. Blair Phillips scored on a pass from Ray Daniels and Dave Burnett scored from John Lally. The teams had a break: between the second and third period and Port came back flying. They picked up 7 goals in the third period. Scoring for Port: Robbie Baker scored on a good pass from Steven Durham; Dave Burnett unassisted; Dave Burnett assisted by Dave Culbert and John Lally; MoJacks (From page 10) place Little | Britain Merchants, and/one each against Beaverton, Uxbridge and Cobourg. The team is idle until this coming Sunday evening when Beaverton will visit the Scugog Arena for a 7:30 face-off, and Little Britain Merchants will be in town the next evening for a Monday night game with face-off at 8:00 p.m. The MoJacks are ready to sign Greg Dwyer, a recent release from the Oshawa Junior B's, and this six-foot defenseman will probably be in the line-up for the Sunday and Monday night games. Dave Burnett unassisted; Blair Phillips assisted by Ray Daniels and Robbie Baker; Scott Feasby assist- ed by Dave Burnett and John Harman; and John Lally from Brian Dean and Bobby Goble. Dave Burnett was the big gun for Port Perry picking up seven points in this game scoring 4 goals and 3 assists. Port travel to Cobourg on PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., January 9, 1980 --- 1 Tuesday January 8th and host Ajax on Friday, Janu- ary 11at8:00 p.m. The game against Ajax should be a good one. In the first game of the schedule, Port was defeated by the Ajax team but the Port Atoms are contemplating a win this time, only having had 1 practice before playing this team at the beginning of the season. rd a WILLIAMSON For the Best Deals on New G.M.
