Port saw two goals from Mike Sorley, with assistance from Shawn Phillips. Daryl Leatherdale aided Port with his goal assisted by Jeff Mills. Port had difficulty break- ing Lindsay's defence as this was a strong point they possessed. Other than Lindsay's captain scoring five of the six goals for his team, their offence had to keep alert as the Auctioneers were only behind one point until the last few minutes of play. The Novice team this year have been very fortunate to receive brand new uniforms in the Port Perry colours, red and white. Somehow two sweaters have been mis- placed, number 2 and 30, which means some team members must wear old substitute sweaters. Lakefield got its only goal on a third period power play. A back pass from Kirk Chittick to Greg Fitzgerald in the slot did the damage. Paul Moore also got an assist. At least three of the goals over the last two periods were scored while Port Perry was shorthanded. Hill got one of them while Port Perry was down two men when he went in alone of goalie John Meore and slipp- ed it into an open corner. Garner Johnson slipped a wrist shot past John Moore on the second manpower advantage with 7:11 to go in the game to give Lakefield a very comfortable lead. Port was eliminated in its second game with a tough 6-5 loss to Trenton. At one point Trenton led 3-0 and then 5-1° but Port managed to come back on goals by Jim White Jeff Cox, and a hattrick by Darren Cearns. White and Lee Wilbur each had three assists. Ken Sager scored five times for Trenton, including the winner, which came with just 15 seconds left in the match. Port Perry had a goal disallowed after the official ruled that it had been kicked in. Uxbridge whipped Trenton 6-1 to win the Consolation Championship. Sean Convery accounted for half the goals while Kevin Smith, Mike Convery, and Fred Hope got singles. Port Perry Royal Bank manager Tom Mullen [left] was on hand Saturday evening to present the trophies and prizes to the winning team in the annual mixed club bonspiel sponsored by the bank. The rink of Bob and Mary Alexander and Bill and Betty Beare was the eventual winner of this popular event at the Port Perry Curling Club. Pickering thumps Bantam B's . by Danny Millar The defensive corps of the Port Perry Bantam B Canadian Tire hockey team decided to take Wednesday, Jan. 16 off. Unfortunately for goalie Doug Arscott and the rest of his teammates the rearguards did not inform them and the result was a 10-1 thumping at the hands of Pickering. Roy Christenson netted three goals for the visitors and so did Darren Mason. Brad Spagnolo added a pair and Brett Davis and Chris Anderson had one each. Peter Oosterholt got the lone Port marker while Anderson was serving a cross checking penalty in the last part of the first period. This goal opened the scoring but Pickering just over- whelmed them in the last two periods. Arscott performed strong- ly for the better part of two periods but gave up apparently out of frustration in the third. A rather interesting trivia note occurred in the second period. At 8:25 of the frame, Port Perry's Gregg Williams was given a high sticking penalty. The usual aspect about the call was that it was made by Joe Williams, Gregg's older brother and the information was taken down by Grant, father of the two boys, who was timekeep- ing the match.
