Cochrane was in on the first six goals. The first one was defenceman Greg Dwyer's drive from the point while Little Britain was two men short at 2:24, that Cochrane assisted on. Dwyer did not last the whole game as he left early because of a shoulder problem. Dwyer was with the Oshawa Legionnaires of the Jr. B league for a short time before having his shoulder operated on. Another backliner, Chic Tyson, had to leave the game before the final horn had sounded. Tyson was cut for two stitches near the eye after being hit with a puck in the second period. Little Britain goalkeeper Ken Imrie was the cause of his own troubles on the second Port Perry marker at 4:09 when Rob Garrow knocked the wandering goalie off the puck behind the net and fed it in front of Cochrane for the easy goal. Both teams were playing five aside at the time. The Merchants capitalized on a power play of their own at 6:50 when Tim Pearson went around puck stopper Raymond Gibson for the goal. Gibson performed strongly in the two and a half periods that he played. He was replaced by Warren Nicholishen with less than 12 minutes left in the third period leading 9-2. Nicho- lishen, a regular Juvenile goaler, was superb in backing up Gibson during Merle Schewaga's abscence. Nicholishen has served as backup on a number of occasions this season but this is the first time he has seen any active duty. Geoff Field took a tripping penalty. that cost the Merchants when Garrow unleashed a slapper from the blue line for the third goal of the period for the Mojacks. Garrow flanked Cochrane on the left wing and Cannon stayed on the right side to form the most dangerous unit on the ice for the MoJacks. Cannon got the fifth Port Perry score after Cochrane did the ground work in gett- ing around the Merchant defence and setting him up for the shot in front of Imrie. Cannon was playing on a different line in the third period when he notched his second goal on a perfect high wrist shot after a pass from Rob Greiner. Menzies got the last goal of the second period to put Port up 7-2 when he deked Imrie Juniors whip Merchants 10-3 out of position and shoved the puck past him while on the ice. There was 4:27 left in the second period. Cochrane got an unusual goal seven seconds after the Cannon marker when he fired in a slap shot right. off a draw in the Merchant end' of the ice. It only took 2:25 of the last segment of the one sided match before Port Perry lit up the scoreboard for the eighth time on a Steve Geer effort. Menzies carried the puck around the net and put it on Geer's stick for the tip in. Little Britain got the only goal on Nicholishen with 2:27 left on its third shot after Darrin Jobb lost possession of the puck near the goal. Ray Hawkins fired in the shot that counted. Nicho- lishen submitted a stellar effort for MoJack coach Doug Scott. Atom squad getting ready for play-offs This past week has been a very quiet one for the Mal- mont Farms Atoms. They had one practice on Monday but had no games scheduled. This was the "lull before the storm' as they take to the ice this week with a practice Monday; first game of the play-offs Tuesday in Ux- bridge; play-off game Wed., January 23 at 7 p.m. in Port Perry; tournament game (Peterborough) Thursday; a rest Friday night, returning to Peterborough tournament on Saturday, January 26 with hopes of returning Sunday for the Championship. Due to a shortage of space in last week's paper, the scores for the Cobourg game and Ajax game were omit- ted. The following is a brief- Broomball Continued Evans tallied from Mark Lee in the second to round off the scoring. The final game had Beacock's squeaking past Brian's Towing with a 2-1 score. Dave Dalton finished the scoring with :43 to play on a tip-in pass from Gord Bryans. ing on the games played on January 8 and January 11th. Cobourg Game - January 8, score 5-3 - Ray Daniels picked up the first goal early in the first period, after closely checking to keep the puck in the Cobourg end. John Harman scored at 5:45 mark on a pass from Steven Durham. Warren Geer made it 3-0 when he scored unassisted while Port was short-handed. With 25 seconds remaining in the second period, Blair Phillips rounded out the score 4-0 assisted by Ray Daniels. Cobourg seemed to come alive in the third period and they popped two goals in Port's net early in the third period. They continued to pour on the pressure until David Burnett scored an unassisted goal with 2:33 JANUARY ORGAN SALE remaining in the game. Cobourg scored their final goal with 34 seconds remain- ing in the game. Friday, January 11, Port Perry hosted Ajax, Score 5-5. The first period went score- less and it wasn't until the 8:09 mark of the second period when Ajax scored the first goal. John Harman picked up Port's first goal assisted by Steven Durham. Ajax then went ahead with two quick goals while Port was playing two men short on the first and one man short on the second, making the score 3-1. Following a break between the second and third periods, both teams returned: to the ice with restored energy. This period saw lots of action when Port scored a goal by John Lally assisted by David Hammond Romance 123 Reg. $1.665.00 ... $1,465.00 Hammond Sounder Reg. $5879.00... $779.00 <r gyn IRWIN SMITH MUSIC LTD. 191 QUEEN STREET - PORT PERRY - 985-2635 Culbert, and Robbie Baker scored unassisted tying the score 3-3. Ajax broke the tie, then Port came back with a goal by Robbie Baker assis- ted by Brad Menzies to tie it up again. With 2:28 remain- ing in the game, Robbie Baker made a perfect lead pass to David Burnett who made no mistake and put the puck past the Ajax goalie. Twenty-five seconds later, Ajax again tied the score and it remained that way to the end. Robbie Baker was a stand out performer in this game, when he not only scored twice, but made a beautiful pass to David Burnett on the deciding goal of the game.
