John den Boer is on a ten day visit to Holland to see his father, Martin den Boer, Mr. den Boer Sr. has just celeb- rated his 93rd birthday. Ed Schamerhorn, Liberal candidate in Durham- Northumberland riding maintains a hectic campaign this week. On Monday he spent the day in Clark and Hope Townships, Tuesday he was mainstreeting in Cobourg in the morning and visiting Cartwright, Cavan, Millbrook and Manvers in the afternoon and evening. Wednesday it's coffee parties on Scugog Island and at Seagrave in the morning then on to Bethany where he attends an All Candidates Meeting at St. Pauls Parish Hall at 2 p.m. Thursday he is in Bowmanville in the morn- ing and in the afternoon and evening will be in Darling- ton. Friday, he moves to the east end of the riding to attend various socials. On Saturday, Cavan, Millbrook and Manvers are the target areas in the morning and will be back in Port Perry and Scugog to open the commit- tee room and a coffee party at 18 Water Street. On Sunday he attends another All Candidates meeting sponsored by the Port Hope Business and Professional Womens Club at 2 p.m. at Trinity College. Potpourri Guild hold first meeting of year by Zona Parkes The Potpourri Handicraft Guild held its first meeting of the New Year with quite a good turnout of regular members and also a number of interested guests. The meeting was opened by President Mary Lou Carnochan who read a poem entitled 'Laughter'. After some discussion on the proposal of special work- shops, it was approved by the Guild members to hold them every third Wednesday evening of each month. The decision was made that these workshops will be under the direction of a craft commit- tee headed by Eileen Draper. It was announced that those who are interested in attending should bring along a craft on which they have been working on at home. Everyone will be welcome to participate in this quilting-bee, ladies who would like to learn and those who have already had ex- perience in quilting. The finished quilt will be raffled at the Fall Festival of Crafts next October. The first workshop is scheduled for January 23 at 8 p.m. at Town Hall 1873. After a short break for coffee and cookies the meet- ing continued with Lynne Warne instructing some interested members in the art of quilling while others worked on crewel and needlepoint projects. On display for everyone to admire were some of Mary Nesbit's Beenka creations. Darla McDonell brought along four or five very attractive needlepoint pictures and two lovely crocheted afghans, done in an afghan stitch with cross- stitch worked over it. tainly a highlight of every meeting is the display of the beautiful and varied crafts done by Guild members and everyone is encouraged to bring her finished work each month. The next regular meeting of the Potpourri Handicraft Guild will be held at Town Hall 1873 on February 6th at 8 p.m. at which time instruc- tion on crewel and needle- point will be offered.
