3 wy + Ashburn news , community centre. by Mrs. E. Heron About twenty five ladies and one man attended and participated in the two day workshop which began last Thursday in the Church Hall. Margaret Davis in her usual pleasing, knowledge- able manner helped us learn the basics and many special things about indoor garden- ing. Slips were shared and planted in the proper way and a happy day was spent with friends. The course will continue next Thursday beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Ashburn group of the W.M.S. held their meeting last Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. John McKinney. Mrs. A. Fisher was in charge of the Devo- tions and read Psalm 33 and read a letter from Miss Margaret Leash of the Helen McDonald Girls School in India. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. F. Daw, the first Wednesday afternoon in February. The Annual Meeting for the Community Centre will be held on Wed. evening, January 23rd at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come out and support your Coffee and doughnuts will be served. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Death and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Daw have returned from a trip to Dayton, Ohio recently. =~ Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Emm and family enjoyed a three week vacation over the holidays in Florida. On their way home they visited Ashburn, Georgia. They received a sincere warm welcome and were made honorary citizens of the town. On the second Sunday of Ephiphany at Burns Church Rev. McEntyre's message was "The Jesus who ask Questions". The Junior Choir sang "'I love the Bible' and the Senior Choir sang **He leadeth Me", which fit in with Rev. McEntyre's message. The service closed with the hymn, "Lead us Heavenly Father, Lead Us." Next Sunday the services will be at the usual hour 11:15 a.m. and church school is at 10 am. There is a nursery for babies and young children. Dare to be wise; begin! He who postpones the hour of living rightly is like the one who waits for the river to run out before he crosses. Mrs. Rachael Forsyth, Mrs. Jennie Johnston, Mrs. Allan Holman and Miss Hilda Hopkins attended the 107th birthday party for Miss Annie Stewart at Fairview Lodge last Sat. afternoon. Mrs. Yvonne Appleton took the chair. We opened the meeting by having a moment of silence in remem- brance of Mrs. Muriel Button and Mrs. Norma Crowell followed by the repeating of the Lord's Prayer in unison. The roll call was taken and we had eleven members present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted and the annual report was also given. Our treasurer Mrs. Elsie Pogue gave her annual report and « "informed us of the profit made from our euchre held on January 8th. Our busi- ness portion of our pro- gramme opened with a dis- cussion on our next euchre and bake sale to be held on February 12th. Mrs. Made- line Cawker and Mrs. Heidi Krieg volunteered to be the executive for this event. Mrs. Elsie Pogue made the motion we charge $3.00 per plate for our hot luncheons, seconded by Mrs. Ann Ward- law. Mrs. Elsie Pogue made the motion that our banquet prices remain the same $5.00 per plate for non-members and $4.50 per plate for members, seconded by Mrs. Barbara Brown. Mrs. Barbara Brown then read the correspondence. A letter was received from the Oshawa Presbytery inform- ing us of a seminar for presidents and vice presi- dents on January 14th begin- ning at 9:30 a.m. Further discussions were held on various items pertaining to the New Year.
