Although a good many folks are basking in this mild spell winter sports enthusiasts and resort operators are finding it a little less that ideal. Sorry to hear Fred Puck- rin had the misfortune to injure his foot recently, knowing him it will take a lot more than a fracture to put him out of commission. Hope you're not indisposed for too much longer! A speedy recovery is wish- ed to Bill Keene and Laurence Davis who have been spending a few days in the hospital. Give the future a chance on February 18th. jf - NORTHUMBERLAND ws Allan Lawrence featured on magazine cover story Durham-Northumberland M.P. Allan Lawrence, as the Federal Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs, is the subject of the cover story and main article in the recently published magazine "Trufax", the official publication of the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan Toronto. The magazine is distributed not only to all Toronto members of the Bureau, but as well is subscribed to by a large number of Better Business concerns across Canada. The article and interview in the magazine originated after Mr. Lawrence was the guest speaker at the Bureau's Annual meeting last fall, when he also answered questions from the audience about consumer issues. Highlights of the quota- tions in the interview with the Bureau President, Mr. Paul Tuz, indicated some new trends in Federal Government policy under the leadership of the new Minister, and covered subjects such as consumer activism, regulation of Canadian advertising, the responsiblity and desira- bility of business to respond to consumer complaints, class-action suits, solicita- tion by mail, government funding, and competition legislation. Mrs. Lorraine Preston has returned home following a few days in Toronto General Hospital. Mrs. Hazel Gray had the misfortune this week to slip and fall and break her wrist and is currently carrying it in a sling. Speedy recovery to all our invalids. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Mal- colm, Todd and Tara, enjoyed a week's holidays in the southern part of Florida where the climate was a balmy 80-85 degrees F. Our minister Mr. Art Rod- gers and Mrs. Margaret Armstrong contributed a fine vocal duet at our Sunday morning church services. On Friday evening the an- nual Meeting of Yelverton United Church was held following a pot luck supper. Various reports were pre- sented by the several church organizations involved. Mr. Murray Malcolm is the new elder for a three year term. Board attended the Orientation Seminar offered to new del- egates by U.C.O0. at the Holiday Inn, Oshawa for Zones 3 and 4 of Ontario on Wed., January 16th. Those attending were Messrs. Dave Cowan, Casiment Davidson, Blaine Alsop, Ivan DeJong, Grenville Webster, Jack McNabb and one not so new delegate, Harvey Malcolm. Several local curlers part- icipated in a Bonspiel held in Peterborough on Saturday with amazing success - won several prizes. Sorry we haven't a full quota of names. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Mal- colm spent three days in Ot- tawa this week, where Ho- ward attended a Hog Pro- ducer's Board meeting with: several local Pork Boards in Eastern Ontario.
