The Port Atoms met Bancroft in their first game of the tournament on Jan. 24th. The Port boys were up for this game and played an excellent game of hockey against the Bancroft team who appeared to be a good strong team but were unable to keep pace with Port. Port went ahead in the first period by a score of 2-0 when Robbie Baker scored on a pass from John Harman. David Burnett scored the second marker assisted by Robbie Baker. Bancroft made it 2-1 before Port took control of the game scoring 2 more in the second period when Brad Menzies scored from Ray Daniels and Blair Phillips; Robbie Baker picked up an unassisted goal; and in the third period David Culbert scored assisted by David Burnett; and John Harman scored assisted by Warren Geer and Robbie Baker. Final score Port-6, Bancroft -1. Port returned to Peterbor- ough Saturday for a game against Belle River. The Malmont Farms Atoms made a very good attempt to stay on the championship side of the board; however, Belle River was just too strong for the Port boys, and they defeated Port by a score: of 3-1. The Malmont Farms Atoms were defeated mainly by penalties in the game; however, they worked hard and never gave up until the final buzzer went to end the 'game, - Port picked up the first goal when John Harman scored assisted by Brian Dean. Belle River scored two of their three goals while Port was serving penalties. Losing this game put Port on the consolation side and Belle River went on from here to an easy champion- ship, defeating their other opponents easily with scores of 9-2, and in the final 7-1. Malmont Farms Atoms met Napanee in their second game of the day and defeat- ed Napanee 2-0. Port held their 2-0 lead throughout the rest of the game, eliminating this team from further play. Port's next game was against Peterborough's St. Annes. This game was somewhat of a nightmare for the coaches when the Port team did not play their usual game of hockey. The boys appeared listless, with the exception of the goalies, who came through with many key saves. They managed to come through with a 4-3 win against St. Annes. St. Annes scored the first goal with Port tying the score with 3:45 left in the first period when Warren Geer scored assisted by John Harman. Port went ahead in the second period when Blair Phillips scored assisted by John Harman. St. Annes came back and tied the score in the third period. Port scored two quick goals mid- way in the third when Robbie Baker scored assisted by Dave Burnett and Scott Feasby. St. Annes closed the gap with 2:19 left in the game equalizer, but were unable to get the pulling their goalie in the last minute of play, before the final buzzer went ending the game 4-3. Malmont Farms Atoms returned to Peterborough Sunday to play for the consolation trophy. They met Fenelon Falls in the final game. These two teams were evenly matched and the play went from end to end throughout the game. The first period went score- less and it wasn't until 1:12 remaining in the second period that Port picked up a goal scored by David Burnett assisted by John Lally. Half-way through the second period, Port picked up their second goal when it looked like a replay of the first; John Lally won the draw. from the face-off in Fenelon Falls end, drew the puck back to David Burnett who shot the puck past the goalie. With 3:31 remaining in the game Fenelon Falls scored to make it 2-1 and put tension in the air.
