Another era of life is underway-a new future with new promises. Soon after the beginning of 1980, the Catholic Church dedicated a week to pray for Christian unity. Indeed if the- Church is to survive and to 'function as an integral part of society, achieving the goal of Christian unity becomes essential. Their score with handicap was 4367 pins. Runners up with 4206 pins were Larry and "unworthy" only serves to accentuate a discrepency between what is preached and what is practiced. Such a discrepency can only weaken the backbone of the 'Church and cause it to falter thus rendering it incapable of giving its support to those who are in need. We are living in an age when: misery and turmoil 'have become a way of life for many individuals. The Church. can only let its strength be felt as a com- munity-a community of responsible people willing to . break down the barriers which separate them from the world. The Catholic Church must be willing, as a community, to extend itself and its services not only to all Christians but to all men. Hopefully, the goal of Christian unity will not be as ephemeral as many of our New Year promises but rather a lasting evidence of a deep-rooted belief in the "Human Family" to which every individual belongs. Parish Council Any community, whether religious or not can only function as a community in as much as each of its members is willing to play an active and useful role. It is with pleasure therefore that the parishioners of Immaculate Conception have organized a Parish council. The election took place on Feb. 12 and the following persons were elect- ed. Mr. F. Baxter, Mr. Neil Leering, Mr. Martin Kuypers, Mr. Allen Frank, Mr. Charles O'Connor, Mrs. Janet Smith. The establishment of the Parish Council is a positive step towards the strengthen- ing of the Church as a true and active community. The full cooperation of all parishionners is essential to the success of this under- taking.
