Eo Pacers advance to quarter finals Eliminate Uxbridge in sixth game by Bob Storry Grant Menzies Motors Pacers advanced to the quarter finals in their 0.M.H.A: playdowns with a sixth game 4 to 3 victory over Uxbridge. : Uxbridge jumped into a 2 goal lead, the first one the result of an errant Pacer pass which Harrison picked up just over Port's blue line and then beat two would-be defenders before depositing the puck behind Clay Lovering. Their second goal was a power play goal. Uxbridge continued to out- play and out shoot Port throughout the first half of the game, mainly because of penalties to the Pacers. Penalties kept the Pacers in trouble throughout the game as the referees seemed to see only red all night. Port had 13 minor penalties to 4 for Uxbridge. Port got one goal back when Scott Sandison's screened shot from the blue line found its way through a maze of legs into the Uxbridge net. Paul Storry and Don Young assisted on the goal. The tying goal was scored with the Pacers a man short. Paul Storry lofted a high clearing backhand from Two teams eliminated in broomball action by Dave Dalton PLAYOFF TIME This weekend meant the end of the season for two teams as the regular schedule finished up leaving the other four teams to start the playoffs next week. Before Sunday three teams were tied in third spot and it looked like we were going to get down to the bare facts to determine who was going to make it to the playoffs and who wasn't. In the first game Larocque's Electric and Beacock's Hardware who were two of the teams tied for third, each put up a strong battle to stave off elimination. It was a close one all the-way through as both goaltenders made some fine saves and the defenses stood up at the bluelines. It looked like both teams had each scored at one time or _ Gianninni other but the referees didn't think so. The final score showed how close this game was as it ended up 0-0 with Rick McLean holding the fort for Beacocks and Kevin Beer for Larocque's. It looked like Larocque's were going to be eliminated as Beacock's finished the season ahead of them on the plus or minus scale by one percentage point. If Brians could beat Emmersons in the next game, Larocque's could make the playoffs so they were out in full force cheer- ing Brians on. The first period went scoreless and it wasn't until the 5:40 mark of the second before Dave from Terry Bryant put Emmersons on the board. Their joy was short lived as four minutes later Jerry Kozlinsky got - Brians started on the assist Greenbank news by Helen McKean Our best wishes go to Mrs. Aleta Leask who is recover- ing from an operation in Port Perry Hospital. With 1:44 to play Brians scored when Bill Fielding netted one from Jerry Kozlinsky and Greg Hildebrande. This put Brians in the role of spoilers and ended the season for Emmersons. A short-handed C&B Livestock defeated Utica Farm Equipment 2-1 in the final game of the season. With half the team at a tournament in Simcoe County Ron Redman led his teammates here to the win. Redman netted a short- handed goal from Mark Lee in the first period to get the game started. With 3:56 to play Utica replied on a goal by Keith Ellicott from Mike Mitchell, but just after that Mark Lee scored the essential winner from Ron Redman. After that C&B was content to just play a defensive style and keep Utica off the board: Next week the playoffs and mini showdown start. Game times are 4:00 C&B VS. 'This goal seemed to unsettle the Uxbridge goal- tender a bit and when Scott Sandison scored his second of the night from Pat Johnson, Uxbridge switched goaltenders. Uxbridge came back to even the score at 3 to 3. Overtime loomed large as the clock ticked away in the third period. Todd Blayone started the winner on its way as he fed a pass to Kevin Long. Kevin and Paul Storry passed their way past the Uxbridge defence with Kevin sliding the puck between the goaltenders pads. Port was penalized twice with less than a minute left on the clock and some effect- ive penalty killing by Doug Potts in particular preserved the win for Port. ; Pat Johnson and Paul Storry headed the statistics over the series with 9 and 8 points respectively and 16 and 14 minutes in penalties.
