Betty Stone gave a very interesting talk on Thai- land and the people. Dianne Baylis and Susan Parish favoured us with a beautiful duet - "In the Garden of Prayer." IS (O10) 0) NCR VANS (O11 s EW PROJECT WORTH DOING THIS SUMMER, THE SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM WILL HELP PAY FOR STUDENTS TO HELP GET IT DONE. Does your organization qualify? Established, non-profit organizations and local governments may qualify to receive financial assist- ance to hire students. What projects should you consider? To qualify, projects should employ at least three students for six to 18 weeks between the Sth of May and the 5th of September. Proposals must be of benefit to student partici- pants and should be of lasting value to the community. What students will be employed? Post-secondary or secondary students intending to return to school in the fall, who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents are eligible. The Summer Youth Employment great notion Program will make a contribution towards wages at the level of the provincial minimum wage. In addition, the Program contributes employee benefits and up to $20. per person per week to cover project overhead costs. Where do you go from here? Information and project proposal application forms are available at Canada Employment Centres or Employment Development Branch offices. Deadline for project proposals is March 28. "To receive financial assistance to hire students, proposals must be submitted (post-marked) no later than March 28. Of course, it is to your organization's advantage to submit its application as early as possible, but March 28 is the final deadline. The house teams will be presenting three one-act plays entitled "Itchin' to get Hitched", by the Ookpiks, "Shock of his Life" by the Tigers and "Say Uncle" by the AliKats. The Blackstock community has always supported the Cart- wright Thespians, and we are looking forward to a large turnout. The plays are being presented Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15 at 8 p.m. The plays will be judged Saturday. evening under the following headings: Best Play, Best Actor and Actress, 2nd Best Actor and Actress, and 3rd Best Actor and Actress. Admission is two dollars for adults, one dollar for stu- dents and 75c¢ for children under 12. This week the girls from the Grade 12 business class are on a "Work Week". Each of the girls have been assigned to a different place of business. Such a pro gramme prepares the students for their walk of life as a secretary, and has proved very effective in the past. The dance Friday night proved to be financially successful. "An enjoyable time was had by all." The Yearbook will be hold- ing their annnual "Grafitti Dance' on Friday April 11. Students are anxiously awaiting the March Break from the 17th to the 21st. During that time the Annual Mudcat Bonspiel will be held at Blackstock. Many of the Cartwright High students will be participating in this event. Being Irish I wish to all the curling participants a "Happy St. Patrick's Day' on March 17th.
