We really couldn't have asked for any- thing better. We are sorry to hear of the death of Mr. Clarence Harri- son and the community extends its sympathy to his sister Mrs. Gladys Scott. It was recently brought to the attention of the corres- pondents of this column that some of our readers feel our column deals too much with church news items. It is unfortunate that community lacks the facilites such as a hall or recreation centre but since this is the case our church basement does double duty not only as a Sunday School classroom but also as a meeting room for the Play group, Beavers, Brownies, Cubs, Scouts, community showers and the list is endless. We should be appreciative also of the fact that the church does not levy a fee for the use of its basement as would be required by a com- munity hall board. The church gratefully acknow- ledges donations from the aforementioned groups but to the best of my knowledge does not impose. a fee of any kind. The purpose of this was not to give everyone a financial statement of the church or of its affairs but merely to clarify a point. If the news does sound "churchy" to some folks we apologize but as most of the children and adult meetings are held there its rather difficult to call it any other name than the church. If I may steal an old saying "A rose by any other name is still a rose". Let us be grateful that we have the use of the basement as often as we do. "Hi" to Norma Adams who is a patienf in the Oshawa General Hospital I understand that she will be remaining there for a few weeks so perhaps you might take time to send her a card or pop a letter in the mail for her. Extensive program set for local Hospital Day Canada Hospital Day, May 12, at Community Memorial Hospital, Port Perry, will undergo a change in the approach to its commemora- tion. While taking note of the theme, our Canada Hospital Day will promote energy conservation by conserving medical-surgical supplies and finances. At the same time, we hope to provide our staff with an overall review of our Disaster Plan while demonstrating the commun- ity resources available to the community as a whole, concentrating on actident prevention and available disaster assistance. Two four-hour programs have been set up - from 1 pm.to4p.m.and4p.m.to8 p.m. Included are: - Cardio Pulmonary Resuci- tation (CPR) - demonstrated by our Nursing Staff. - Inservice Education Program - to Review our Disaster Plan and Manual Revisions; - Safe-driving-Breathalyzer - provided by the O.P.P. - Air Ambulance-Helicopter - provided through the Minis- try of Health-Transportation (pending availability) - Emergency Measures Organization - represented by Sgt. Matthews, Durham Region Police Force. - Land Ambulance Demon- strations - courtesy of our local Port Perry Ambulance Service. The public is invited to attend any or all of the sessions and our staff members are urged to attend as many sessions as possible : as part of their In-Service Education Training. By combining our Disaster 'Plan methods with our Canada Hospital Day, we hope to provide the training methods needed to carry out a successful disaster drill without "fake' patients and unnecessary use of our supplies. We want to provide staff and community with awareness of our resources and our ability to implement the many facets available should we encounter a "real" disaster situation. By combining a goodly number of these resources, Rr 0 PC a SSL Home Hardware"s Own Paint Factory Sea HOME HARDWARE'S OWN SUPERIOR BEAUTI--TONE right © Exterior Latex ur gs ud of oul. we're SO Pr ihe analysis paint, wep jabel. n Finishing White Or Wood Primer White Paint Made in Canada. we are impressed with each one's individual part to be played and how we can inter- relate them, e.g. police and fire provisions, ambulance . and hospital staff capabili- ties, medical staff and volun- teers from emergency measures personnel. Probably our biggest goal will be to create some enthu- siasm about technique in combining our skills. If we are fully aware of what is available, of how to get it in . use, and why it is of value to us, then we should have no problem in "getting at it" when we need it! FENCE & PATIO CENTRE .
