The Big Top came to Port Perry in the early morning hours of last Thursday, and 24 hours later there was not a sign that they had been here. But for three hours on Thursday evening there was . no doubt that the circus was in town, as approximately 1400 excited children and their parents lined up to see the exciting extravaganza. Hours before the show went on, there were a few anxious minutes when it was learned that the spot at the Port Perry fair grounds that had been planned to hold the circus, was too small for the enlarged circus. Plans to use the larger inner field of the fair ground were scuttled after a test showed that it was too wet and the large trucks would sink. Chamber of Commerce director Bill Barr told the Star on Tuesday that they were very close to cancelling the circus when it was suggested that the property owned by Charlie Pavlik at the corner of Perry and Lilla Streets would be suitable. Upon approaching Mr. Pavlik they were told that the C of C could use the property to hold the circus. During the afternoon the -circus people along with the help of the large elephant erected the large tent and all The trapeze artists always thrill the crowd and these two performers held everyones attention high above the floor of the big top as they performed their show.
