Yelverton ie area news By Harvey Malcolm Welcome back to Mr, Don- ald Whittaker who is current- #Jy back from a stint in Saudi- Arabia visiting with his mother Mrs. Hazel Whittaker of Lindsay and local friends and relatives. The prema- turely hot, sultry weather we .s enjoyed last week should have made Donald quite at home - typical Saudi-Arabia weather. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rowan attended a pretty May wed- ding, Edmunds-Tisdale in St. James United Church in Pet- 8 erborough on Saturday, May 24th. Miss Edmunds is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Edmunds of Peterborough. Manvers Township is the place to be heading this com- «ing weekend May 31 and June 1st as many events vie for at- tention and support of the in- dividual. In conjunction with the Victoria County, Manvers Township is holding a two day Arts and Crafts Show in o the Community Arena with something for everyone. The Janetville Men's Ball Team have a two day pro- gram planned in Janetville Park - a 16 team Softball Tournament, a large re- ereshment tent at which, local musician Gary Bristow and band volunteered their services on Saturday evening for a hair raising experience. ~The Yelverton Men's Team are holding a dance in Nestle- # ton Community Hall to raise money for the ball team with Bert Grant, D.J. of Pontypool in attendance. All above events are worthy of attention. On Friday evening a num- ber of the local liberated Lib- ® erals of Victoria-Haliburton attended a dinner, dance and election of officers at Little Britain Arena at which Dr. Stewart Smith was the guest speaker. Despite the oppres- sive heat, a good attendance a Was present on the occasion. On Tuesday evening we were reassured, if only on a temporary basis, that the DRAPERY CLEANING] SPECIAL CLEANING PROCESS Confederation of Canada shall continue for a while longer at least. We were not reassured that Rene and his followers who included over half of the French speaking people of Quebec, are giving up to quietly lick their wound and forget all about it. The need of being masters of our own fate and not an appen- dage of Britain is long over- due. The problem of creating a sense of Canadian patriot- ism to encompass a provin- cial pride rather than to contradict one's pride of ori- gin seems to be the current problem across Canada. Hopefully it is one we can address ourselves to and col- lectively solve. Unfortunately more power to the provinces would appear to defeat the cause rather than enhance it as it would tend to make our attitudes even more decisive. Congratulations are ex- tended to Mr. Art Rodgers, our Janetville United Church minister, who on Tuesday evening, May 27, will be inducted into the Ministry with services being conducted in St. Marys Roman Catholic Church in Barrie at 7:30 p.m. "Henceforth we shall no doubt be referring to Mr. Rodgers as "Rev". Mr. Rodgers has exemplified a keen dedication to-his 'Christian calling and will be a worthy addition to the Ministry. Yelverton U.C.W. Bus Trip - as supplied by Sect.
