But none of the wins have been more spectacular than the one over the Ponty- pool Generals last Wednes- day night when they scored 11 runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 20-11 victory, their fifth in six tries against the Generals. The Generals appeared to be on their way to an_ easy victory, leading 11-5 after six frames. The roof caved in on starting pitcher Marty Junkas in the seventh when he was tagged fo four runs. He fell apart in the big eighth inning. After Don Phinney and Mark Lee opened the eighth with safeties and got into scoring position, Ron Red- - man pounded a two run double to the left field fence. Redman scored on shortstop George Van Dam"s error. Charlie Durward also got on base and then scored when Randy Crawford hit a bouncer past VanDam. Crawford came around to Fd Hliustrated: SALE 1 PRICE CHARGEX VISA PRY AXA -5 v = score another unearned run on an error. A double to centerfield by Doug Scott drove in Kevin Walker and Ken Jeffrey came around to score when Ken Bryant, the tenth man to hit in the inning, got on base on another error. Phinney drove home Scott with a long fly ball to centerfield. Bryant added another run when Lee tripled over left field. Redman got his third run batted in by doubling home Lee with a shot to right field. By the time the inning had ended Port Perry had sent 13 men to face Junkas. Redman, normally.an out- fielder or occasionally a first baseman, went to pitch to the final three batters in the bottom of the ninth. He retired the side in order, all on routiyie 'grounders. A leadoff" 'hit by Ken Bryant and a triple down the left field line by Phinney brought in the first Port Perry run in the home half of the first segment. Phinney came in to score on Lee's broken bat infield out. While the game was still up in the air, Port Perrv ° N. abs FATHER'S DAY SIZZLE SALE Help Father become a Great Chef! .. SUPERIOR PORTABLE GAS 1 BARBEQUE coach Scott made several substitutions in the fifth inning. Walker came in to pitch for Phil Cochrane, gett- ing the win in relief. Red- man replaced Mike McQuade at first base and Scott came in to play second base. Bryant moved into the shortstop position and Lee moved from second to third. Tournament Port Perry dropped two 4-3 decisions to Toronto teams during the Oshawa Men's Tournament over the week- end. Walker pitched a three hitter in the second contest but still lost. That marked the first time in three tries this year that Port Perry has been eliminated in two straight games of a tourna- ment. This weekend they enter their fourth tourney in Against Claremont, Unionville Pontypool. Port may end up competing in 70 games this season. One of the reasons that they are entered in so many tournaments is to get extra exposure because they will be entering OASA play- offs at- the end of the summer. > Squirts split two games by Wayne Venning The Port Perry Legion Squirt Softball team split two games in York-Durham league play. On Tuesday night the club travelled to Claremont and defeated the local boys by a 12-9 score, but on Thursday back on their home diamond the Squirts were not as fortunate as they lost an exciting well played game 7-5 to Unionville. In both games the Port Perry boys dropped behind early in the contest, could only score enough runs in the Claremont game to salvage a victory. > re 79 xray iad Dm ate amen Mh y fa aeti 46 Sv For Father's Day!
